Thanks to Luz for being so gracious and helpful. Definitely the best place we stayed in Argentina. So professionally run, at the same time so relaxed and friendly. Beautiful views and wonderfully designed to include so much traditional craft and locally sourced architectural materials. It made it such a very special to visit.
We had a lovely clean room and enjoyed the open air swimming pool with views to the surrounding mountains. Luz recommended some excellent places to eat nearby too. Tilcara is an unforgettable town and Posada de Luz outstanding.

Everything is perfect about Posada Del Luz. The warm and friendly owner, Luz, is usually there, fluent in English and full of ideas for dining and exploring. The hotel is perfectly located few blocks from Tilcara's main square, up a hill with panoramic mountain and town views. The rooms are clean and charming, and they leave a bucket of wood logs to make a fire in case it gets cold at night (not that you need it - the rooms are heated). Most rooms open out to a sitting area with a lovely view. The town is safe but it still felt nice to be within the walls of this charming property with sprawling gardens, patios and pool. We liked it so much we extended our stay and came back on the return from our loop.

I will add to the long list of positive reviews. I stayed for 2 nights with my wife and father-in-law and enjoyed every moment. Each of us had a double room, which was tastefully decorated, had a stove and sitting area, a modern bathroom, and a sitting area and lawn chairs outside the room. The property has a beautiful common areas - a pool, a quincho, hammocks, lawn furniture, and a very comfortable common room with a fireplace and plush sofas. As other reviews have mentioned, the breakfast is very good and they cook eggs upon request. They also offer reasonably priced high quality wines, which we enjoyed along with the board games available. Some of the staff were extremely congenial and helpful with recommendations, but one woman did not want to be bothered.

The posada is located several blocks uphill from the main plaza and a 20 minute walk from the pucara. The property enjoys beautiful views over the Valle Humahuaca. I would definitely recommend Posada de Luz to my friends.

Such a beautiful place! Our room had a attractive sleeping area, raised sitting area with wood stove, lovely bathroom, and a patio outside. The breakfast is much more extensive than one usually finds in Argentina. Staff were lovely. I could have stayed much longer than two days.

PS. This is the place to try coca tea!

Room tip: I don't think any room can be bad there.

PRO: Upon arrival we fell in love with this hotel. Although they spoke little English we were able to get by. The grounds of the hotel are lovely and the pool is warm and great!! Our room was the suite and had 2 bedrooms which was great for my daughter. We swam and explored the town all within walking distance. Breakfast was good, not a lot of variety but good enough to hold you over till lunch.
CONS: Tilcara seems to be the town of stray dogs. Both nights we were there a pack of stray dogs set up outside our windows and barked/howled all night (not exaggerating). So sleep was almost impossible even with the windows shut and barricaded by pillows....with that the room became very stuffy without a breeze coming in...no a/c or fans.
We liked the hotel for the grounds/pool but if you plan to sleep you may want to reconsider.

Room tip: Any room way from the streets

Dear Jill,
thank you very much for taking the time to rate our inn.
Your comments will help us improve our services.
Concerning dogs, you are right, and we are actively working with Tilcara`s Pets Association, to control this problem that affects all the village.
regards
Luz
