I stayed here for nine nights in mid/late March 2011 with my daughter.
I've stayed in quite a few of the budget hotels in the Phoenix area - mainly Chandler and Tempe before, and this was definitely one of the better ones, good value as the quality was high and the price good. I suspect they have to offer better prices as the hotel is further from any of the main roads than others.
I stayed in room 145, ground floor, which had a door which opened towards the pool. I'd say this is more secure than other rooms which have a second door opening onto the car park. The choice here is between car park noise vs swimming pool noise, and convenience vs security?
The area is quite reasonable, and the car parking is to the side and rear, with no through traffic, so shouldn't be particularly unsafe.
The room and bathroom were clean, the beds comfortable, the bathroom larger than average. Facilities included a fridge, microwave, iron and board, hair dryer, drip/filter coffee machine, all of which worked well. The TV wasn't all that new but it worked well, without the snowy picture that many budget hotels suffer from.
The wifi was good too, coverage was good. The captive portal (Mikrotik) worked with normal desktop computers, and my android phone, didn't like my Nokia S90 unless I manually entered the URL for the login page and then it worked. I did have some success with Skype, but there was a bit too much contention for high quality calls.
The breakfast was above average for this type of location, as well as cereal (only two types, raisin bran and frosted flakes), there were hard boiled eggs, waffles, breads for toasting, pastries and apples. The coffee (caff and decaff) was actually not bad compared to the weak stuff most hotels have! I observed the staff practising good food hygiene - using gloves etc when handling things.
I noticed that the guests tended to be older than other places, perhaps reflecting the keen price but inconvenient location. The other guests were more friendly than the average place too!
The main lobby was spacious with internet facilities for guests.
The pool was a bit cold, which is perhaps my only complaint. The hot tub was nice and warm, clean too (some places I've stayed there's a layer of grime at the water line). By the hot tub there were two shower rooms, one for men, one for women close by. I didn't use the exercise room which seemed to have a variety of "torture" machines in it!!
The staff were pleasant and helpful, not overly chatty.
There are a range of restaurants somewhat close by, less than 10 minutes by car will get you to Mimi's Cafe, Olive Garden, Jack In The Box, McD's, Filiberto's (recommended for their breakfast burritos).
Overall I'd be very happy to stay again, the moderate inconvenience of the location is offset by the quality and cost.
