“Always a good time on the river!”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

We moved to Phoenix about 7 years ago from the mountains of Arizona and we LOVE GOING TO THE RIVER!! We will get a big group together and go a few times every summer (going on July 6th next actually). I can't believe the last review from out of town visitors.... You are tubing down a river that has rocks, rapids, etc... Duh there are always risks involved but you need to be smart and aware.

We actually bring our own tubes and have another vehicle go and park at the end of the river, cheaper and better than using the salt river tubes and buses. Make sure to get a Tonto pass thought (only $6 from the gas station). Bring LOTS OF WATER, beer, food, water shoes (so you don't hurt your feet) and sunscreen! We always have a great time. Warning... there are always idiots out there though, I mean rude people and people that are way too drunk. There are some ghetto people that hang out under the bridge (point 2) that like to shoot water at you and try to annoy you when you go by just an FYI. We like to go from point 1, which is usually about a 4 hour float trip, if the water is running right but the last time we went was Memorial weekend and point 1 was running at about 6-8 hours, so make sure you check before you take off.

I think everyone should do a float trip at least once, it is absolutely beautiful out there and a little fun adventure. The end is kinda a pain in the [--] because you have to drag all your stuff up after you get done but all and all it is worth is. Since AZ doesn't have a beach we have to make the most of our summers here. Also if you want to mingle with people you should stop at the cliffs, it is where most people stop to hang and some jump off the cliffs, which I don't suggest at all. Enjoy yourself though, be safe and smart but have a good time :)

“I hate tubing down this river”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

It is hot and miserable. I have been drug down this stupid river many times by friends and I hate it. Bring a sheet to cover your black tube. Reapply sunscreen often and don't wear flip flops, you will lose them. It takes at least six long hours to complete.

“Sun Fun”
Reviewed June 19, 2013

I admit I was nervous about tubing, especially since I had heard "the stories" about the huge volume of people tubing on weekends with rampant drunken participants, etc. Our group had a WONDERFUL time! We went mid-week (which I highly recommend if you want a relaxing day) in a group of 5. The checkin was quick and efficient - you basically play follow-the-leader to get your tube and ride the shuttle to the drop spot. Easy. Read the instructions/warnings on the website and follow them and you will have a wonderfully relaxing trip down the river. Our trip took about 3 hours with no incidents or regrets. We actually wanted to go again immediately but we had started our day late. Take a sheet to keep your tube cool, rope and something to cut it with so you can tie tubes together, plenty of beverages of your choice in an ice chest (rent a tube/tub for it), 70-100 sunscreen so you aren't sorry the next day, a hat and sunglasses and wear aquasocks (a must). Saw lots of wildlife on trip too. It didn't matter that it was well over 100 degrees outside - the river was cool and refreshing. We took food but only snacked lightly - they sell ice cream which was great after completing our trip.

“Great day, fun for all. A few tips...”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

We went on a Monday and there was hardly anyone there. We got there around 11am, and did the whole thing.
Helpful tips...we went to goodwill and purchased old fitted sheets. We tied the under the tubes. It was perfect. The tubes get very hot, and towels get too heavy. Sheets are ideal.
We also went to Taco Bell and got $7 dollar off coupons, making it $10 a tube. Don't forget a tube for your cooler is the same price as a tube for a person.
We had 12 in our group, various ages. 8, 11, 15, 39-64. You will have to be in decent shape. We did put a life jacket on the 8yr old, even though she can swim.
We did not run into any loud groups, or pollution. We did see a beaver, a crane, large fish, and cardinals.
Load up on sunscreen, and we all had hats and water shoes or old shoes. Rocks are slippery, and some places are shallow. We went on a hot day (107) for about five hours, but none in our part got sunburned. Lots of reapplying.
We had a terrific day, and would do it again, but not on a weekend!

“Sun & Fun”
Reviewed June 12, 2013 via mobile

Kids were entertained, although rather pricey for tube rental & bus ride under hot sun = one pricey sunburn.
