“Not up to par”

Jon the owner was insistent on calling us "Friends" each time he came to the table, a bit annoying. As well as him constantly asking us if things were up to his reputation, actually we didn't ever know just what his reputation was. The dipping sauce was at the table when we arrived, how long had it been sitting there? The bread was warm, a good thing. The waite staff were pleasant and good at what they did to make our experience nice. The 2 bottles of Villa Pozzi, Red Cabernet was outstanding, we all enjoyed that. The salad looked crisp and appetizing but mine was doused with the house dressing and the greens actually were already wet to begin with and soggy for the most part like it had been refrigerated wet, not a good texture at all. The tiny bit of gorgonzola cheese was a nice touch. 3 of us had the Polla Marsala, I asked if they had mashed potatoes when mine was served and Jon just said no, my friend ordered a side of pasta to mix with her gravy. And the gravy was good but I have never had this dish with onions added before, it was a twist and just okay. Another in the party ordered the Mere Seafood with Angel hair pasta, it smelled good and he never raved about it but ate it all so we guessed it was edible. We decided to share a tiramisu for dessert. What a huge disappointment. The cake was too wet with coffee and too heavy with cocoa on top and the squirts of whipped cream from an obvious can melted in no time and ran around the plate, no substance to this dish at all. Now Carraba's makes a fine tiramisu, dense, creamy and delicious. After spending about $75 for each couple we knew the dinner was not worth going back again for another try, sorry, not up to par. We then went down the sidewalk to the gelato shop and had a huge bowl of ameretto gelato and do go there it is excellent for a much better dessert than Alessia's. We remember years ago when this place housed Gianni's, that was true Old World Charm Italian, wish it was still the same place.
