“Some terrific concerts and shows”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

We've seen Hal Holbrook, Yitchak Perlman and others that were spectacular - and the occasional show that was a dud. But the venue is first rate -

Parking is easy, though some lots may charge when there is a major event.

There's a small contemporary art museum - not my style, though others seemed to enjoy it.

Right in the heart of Mesa, easy parking, close to restaurants that serve good food, top-grade entertainment.

“Unappreciated Gem”
Reviewed January 27, 2013

I am as guilty as anyone. I see a play or attraction advertised that I may be interested in attending, then sigh when I see that it is in Mesa. To many in central Phoenix or the west side, we visualize a day trip. But the rare (and, who knows, last chance) to see William Shatner's one-man show at the Mesa Arts Center on Jan. 20 proved irresistible. The Center is beautiful. The lobby is spacious; the theater is comfortable with good views. On a Sunday night, it took less than a half hour to get there and, once you have been there, it is not hard to find. There's paid (but inexpensive) parking available. I would be happier if the Metrorail was more accessible, as it is to the downtown Phoenix theaters. But I would recommend making the "no-so-far" journey to see this unappreciated Valley gem.
