“Nice Place to Enjoy a Glass of WIne”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 27, 2013

This comfortable and casual restaurant is a historic landmark in Mesa. The walls are painted with fun quotations about wine (“Wine is sunlight, held together by water”--Galileo), bringing attention to their well-stocked wine bar. Delicious warm rolls were brought to the table to munch on while we reviewed the menu. Our server was friendly and offered a number of suggestions, which we followed. The crispy pork loin served over a fontina cheese risotto with orange caper berry sauce was excellent, but the lobster mac’n cheese was on the dry side. Although the meals weren’t consistent, this is a nice casual place to enjoy a glass of wine and some food before or after strolling down the nearby streets of the downtown Art District.

“Gluten Free Italian=Win!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2013 via mobile

First time at Il Vinaio but had to do take out due to other commitments. Arrived at 4:30pm on a Wednesday and it was deserted. Hostess obviously greeted me right away and accommodated me with a gluten free menu.

Since I did take out, she warned me that GF pasta takes 20 minutes. No prob there so she offered water during my wait.

Dinner arrived right on time: 20 minutes after she turned in the ticket. We ordered Classic Bruschetta on GF bread. It was toasted just right with herbaceous tomatoes on top. For entrees we got the Pasta Vinaio with GF pasta and Chicken Roulade (no gluten adjustments needed.). Each dish was well prepared with saucy goodness, goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes.

The total was $43 for two entrees and an app but for hard-to-find gluten free Italian, it was worth the price.

We will return when we have time to have a good sit down meal.

“Great Venue for a Wine Event”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

My husband and I had been to Il Vinaio a few times and we decided to have a wine event there for Our Own Wine Club. It was great. Our theme was food and wine pairing. The owner talked about each wine and why he selected it with the particular food course. Very informative and not stuffy or snooty. They have a wide selection of food items, including some interesting wild game. Definitely recommend for wine tasting because they have a very nice wine list with wines from regions all over the world.

“Nice Restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2012

Wife & I had dinner here. Atmosphere is clean and nice. The food was very good and the service was good. They have a great selection of wines and they serve a wine margarita which I found to be quite nice. We would certainly eat there again when in Mesa.

“Mesa Surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2012

What a nice surprise to discover this restaurant in Mesa, AZ. The owners and staff were attentive and helpful in their recommendations. The menu offers a nice range of choices. Our starters included a fig bruschetta and a share platter of nuts, cheeses, olives and caperberries. Our meals were prepared from scratch and all three of us loved each of our choices of pasta, schrimp and salmon. Great selection of wine. Wish they would open II Vinalo 2 on the West side of the Valley. The restaurant is comfortable and fun. We will return.
