Owner description: The Arizona Museum of Natural History is the premier natural history museum in Arizona. It is dedicated to inspire wonder, respect, and understanding for the natural and cultural history of the Southwest. Explore Arizona and the Southwest from the creation of the earth 4.5 Billion years ago to the present. See the origins of life on earth, meteorites and minerals. In Dinosaur Hall, discover some of the biggest dinosaurs that ever lived, and on Dinosaur Mountain see how some appeared and sounded in a natural context. In a Walk through Time, explore ancient Arizona's Paleozoic Seas, Triassic Petrified Forest, monsters of the Cretaceous Seas, and the first animals to fly. "Rulers of the Prehistoric Skies", our newest exhibit, presents the amazing diversity of Pterosaurs, the flying reptiles of the Mesozoic. Neither dinosaurs nor birds, Pterosaurs ruled the skies from about 225 to 65 million years ago.

I took my daughter here, the place is big under street level, with many activities for kids; there is a lot to read, see, and touch!

“Nice Museum”
Reviewed February 27, 2014

This is a great place to put on your vacation plans if you're in the Mesa area. It was cold and overcast the day we went and it was an excellent indoor activity. There is so much to see and do and is good for all ages. There is a room that is filled with items from the past and the object is to identify them. I realized I was old when I saw an IBM select typewriter on a stand. Several of us panned for gold outside and found some "gold". Plan on spending about 3 hours.

“Pleasant Surprise”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

Spent 2 filled hours exploring this gem. Kid & Sr. friendly-hands-ons all over the place. Trip from prehistoric to 20th century Arizona. Spacious exhibits, well presented history, mind-bending exhibits. Don't miss the "flash flood" on Dino Mtn- wow! I panned for gold in the courtyard, tried a few puzzles, and even got in an old western film- green-screen program. Allow half a day if you have kids. Cost for seniors was $9, saved a buck. Easy to find, free parking across street, bronze street art all around. Highly recommend this museum- one of the best.

“Ok but not great”
Reviewed January 30, 2014

Drove from Goodyear to Mesa to visit the museum and its along drive on a very busy freeway. The museum was less than expected with lots of prehistoric information but not a lot of detailed info and the making of Arizona from its earliest beginning. Great if you have a young family but the museum itself has a confusing layout with a lot of misconnection on details. No restaurant of café on site and the gift shop is so so. If you live close by, by al means visit but if you are not, find another attraction
