Owner description: The Arizona Museum of Natural History is the premier natural history museum in Arizona. It is dedicated to inspire wonder, respect, and understanding for the natural and cultural history of the Southwest. Explore Arizona and the Southwest from the creation of the earth 4.5 Billion years ago to the present. See the origins of life on earth, meteorites and minerals. In Dinosaur Hall, discover some of the biggest dinosaurs that ever lived, and on Dinosaur Mountain see how some appeared and sounded in a natural context. In a Walk through Time, explore ancient Arizona's Paleozoic Seas, Triassic Petrified Forest, monsters of the Cretaceous Seas, and the first animals to fly. "Rulers of the Prehistoric Skies", our newest exhibit, presents the amazing diversity of Pterosaurs, the flying reptiles of the Mesozoic. Neither dinosaurs nor birds, Pterosaurs ruled the skies from about 225 to 65 million years ago.

It's a great way to learn the natural history of Arizona. This is a wonderful activity for adults and kids to interact because of there are lots of hands-on activities for the kids. There is also a nice gift store.

“A Excellent Afternoon”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

A good museum for kids and adults alike. We had a most interesting talk with one of the staff on geology. It covers many different areas for local Indian cultures to dinosaurs to movies filmed in this area. An excellent way to spend time with the family.

“Excellent educational experience”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

This is a wonderful museum in downtown Mesa. The gallery starts with the beginnings of the universe and traces the natural history of Arizona. The majority of the exhibits seemed to focus on meteror strikes in Arizona and the dinosaurs. Several dioramas of prehistoric life in Arizona. Excellent scale models for dinosaurs. That doesn't mean that they were small. They were not small. In the gallery displaying the mesoamerica epoch, there were several dioramas showing how the native americans lived. The gallery detailing all of the movies made in Arizona was very enlightening. They were not all westerns. Friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

“So much to learn”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

There was so much to see! The museum takes you through the solar system, different cultures, different animals of the ages, and so much more. It was interesting to learn about the goldmines and the old jails. They have a jail you can step into for fun. There are plenty of different activities to keep children busy and learning at the same time. I would definitely recommend this to anyone from a nerdy date for two or a family learning experience. The best part is that it didnt even cost much at all.

“excellent...”
Reviewed September 21, 2013

This is a fairly new and excellent small museum. The kids loved it, we spent almost three hours exploring and going back to our favorites. They have some active exhibits such as water and dinosaurs.
