“Good value, but you have to like dogs”
Reviewed December 18, 2011

Close to town, clean. Nice patio outside to sit outside in the evening. I noted complaints in other reviews about the pool, and we did not use the pool but it looked quite clean.
The rooms are basic, the bathroom standard with plenty of hot water for showers.
The breakfasts were spare: bread/rolls, cream cheese and jam or dulce de leche packets, juice which tasted like Tang, and lots of coffee. Nice breakfast room.
WiFi in the common area, not in the rooms.
Large common area with a TV and many movies. Furniture in that area completely worn out but functional.
And the dogs. There were actually 5 of them. Large, German Shepherd/lab mix dogs. We really like dogs, and did not mind them at all; found them charming and friendly. Especially when we ate snacks out on the patio, they were grouped around our table on the tile floor, waiting for something to fall on the ground. We enjoyed them despite the strong doggy smell at times. But I can see how some people would not find them amusing.
Overall good value for the 4 in our family in a single room with private bath.

Let me start with the good, it has a great location within walking distance to the bus terminal and city center, Valeria the receptionist was extra nice, free WiFi and computer access

The bad: the horrible dirty dog smell all peer the house, they keep the dogs inside the hostel that is just not professional at all, the walls in the room wer dirty and really old, we paid only 30 dls but I'm sure we could of got a better hostel we just didn't had time to look around

It is cheap. And that's great for a traveller on a budget. And it's fine when the weather is better and you can spend entire days outside. But it did get a little worse after a 4-day-long continuous rain - ventillation was imperfect.
On the upside, the staff was nice and friendly and I wouldn't mind staying there again provided the weather was better.

Bathrooms were reasonably clean, good water pressure and temperature.

In the end, I moved to another hostel (I was very determined to see the Iguazu falls in the sun ;)

The room with bathroom was ok. The swimmingpool very nice.
The staff was not very helpfull, I wanted to buy some postcards but the man at the desk overheard me several times.
There was a nice and cosy outdoor area, where nearly everyone sat at the evening/night.

Pros and cons:
Start from 5 stars:

1. Location: Although Puerto Iguazu is a very small town, this family-run hostel is away from everything. The walking experience to the center (where the bus terminal is located) is not so pleasant. -1 star
2. Room: Spacious and well-lit. We have a triple room for two, so one bed is very large and the other is pretty small. So you can expect what a standard room looks like. There is a power outrage in the morning and without air-conditioning it's almost impossible to stay in the room since there are too many mosquitoes. -1 star
3. Internet: No wifi in room and the PC in public area has a very unstable connection. -1 star
4. Breakfast is almost the worst that you can expected. Basically only coffee, orange juice and the dry bread which are usually offered free in most Argentine restaurants before main plate comes. -1 star
5. Owners are very friendly and helpful and speaks reasonable amount of English. +1 star
6. I read all the reviews here before I book this hostel, especially those of the four big dogs. They are indeed very friendly and the owners discipline them very well. By the way, there are two very quiet and cute cats. +1 star

Conclusion: with the low price, you get what you paid for. Expect the worst and you will be pleasantly surprised, especially by the well-behaved dogs.
