Secret Garden Iguazu B&B

John Fernandes is the affable and knowledgeable host of this lovely, quiet and well-located B&B only a hop, skip and jump from the amazing Iguazu Falls. In addition to spacious, comfortable rooms and a wonderful breakfast, John also hosts a "happy hour" where you can share stories and drinks with other guests, if you wish. John has seen it all and done it all in Iguazu, and he has a solution ready before you even know that there might be a problem. Staying at this place, which indeed has a lush subtropical garden between the rooms and the patio of the main house, made our stay in Iguazu nearly magical!

We had an excellent two-night stay in this lovely, clean and idyllic place! A lift from the airport was arranged, delicious caipirinha cocktails and good breakfast. John and his crew are very very friendly. A perfect place to stay when visiting the falls. It's highly recommended.

The Secret Garden is not a secret anymore as each of us who has enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of innkeeper John Fernandes tell the online world about it. His warm smile, generosity, and willingness to help were exceptional. In addition, his evening "drinks on the patio" provided us the opportunity to interact further with John and the other guests, not to mention his delightful dog Roxy. Besides being a very unique, intelligent and interesting individual, your host is a wonderful photographer who has a photo gallery on the premises.

Mr. Fernandes will provide pick-up at the airport for a nominal fee and then give you a quick overview of the town. The location of this bed and breakfast is close to restaurants, a large grocery store and public transportation to the Iguazu Falls Park. Once one enters the gate a beautiful fern garden greets you and very soon the simplicity of the Secret Garden becomes a sublime experience. Our two-day stay in this magnificent location ended up being a definite highlight of our forty-two day trip to South America.

We loved our stay at the Secret Garden; the grounds are just beautiful, our room was spacious, bathroom modern and clean. The location is great as it is 2 short blocks from the bus that takes you to the falls or into town for 5 pesos each. John is a great host and fun to chat with; the breakfasts were super with the home-made jams and juices; the happy hour was awesome! This is the place to stay if you like to relax and feel well cared for.

After reading the reviews I didn't expect to be disappointed.
As a traveller I prefer to stay in good quality, full-service hotels and avoid guest houses if possible. My wife enjoys luxury but is also a very gregarious, people-loving individual, and as she is the one who organizes the travelling, I quite often find myself sleeping in unusual places.
The Secret Garden is very different from your normal guest house or hotel. The owner, John Fernandes is a host who will go to great lengths to ensure that his guests are comfortable. After we had checked in and deposited our bags in the clean, and spacious rooms he drove our group of four on a guided tour of Puerto Iguazu, pointing out the best places to eat, and the locations of the ATMs, as well as giving his frank views on local and world issues. My wife loved him, and I also found myself warming to his unusual charm.
The cocktail hour has been well commented upon, but John carefully avoids the alcohol himself and you could well find yourself giving away some embarassing secrets in the Secret Garden if you over-imbibe, which is very easy to do.
This was a very interesting and pleasant stay in a spectacular part of the world. The hospitality is first class and as well as allowing us free use of his Skype John even gave us a lift to the airport on our departure.

Just returned from a two night stay at the Secret Garden. It was an idyllic end to a month long journey. John was extremely hospitable, arranged a driver for us and made sure we had everything we needed. Can't recommend it highly enough!

Many have written of host John Fernandez's hospitality - the guided tour of the town, the evening drinks and hor d'oeuvres, the helpful recommendations on what to see and where to eat - but I'd like to commend his staff and driver recommendations as well. Soledad and the others were always helpful with an extra towel or cup of ice tea when you returned from a day of sightseeing; yesterday's laundry was returned with a smile the following morning; and a surprise birthday cake was presented for my special day! My driver, Rafael, spotted a tree with seven toucans in it by the road (great photo op); he took me by foot over the bridge to Paraguay to avoid bumper-to-bumper traffic each way; and he made everything smooth and easy with travel plans in disarray because of blockades by striking workers (the federal gendarmerie soon had it all back to normal). The marvelous experience of visiting the falls, standing in rainbows and having three different kinds of butterflies land on you was preserved and enhanced each evening in the relaxing tropical retreat that is the Secret Garden. And if you like photography be sure to ask John to show you his secret photography gallery as well!
