“Wonderful hotel, wonderful location, wonderful trip”
Reviewed May 5, 2009

I think the Esturion must have had a complete makeover since the previous reviews. It was clean, light , airy and cool, rooms very clean and modern as was the whole hotel. Huge choice of food for breakfast, grounds well maintained and swimming pool and surrounds lovely. Staff were helpful and polite always. A group of us always shared a taxi so they seemed very cheap , and anyway, they have to earn a living during the holiday season to make up for the rest of the year. Drivers were polite and helpful and eager to please. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and trip to the Iguazu Falls was breathtaking. Great visit altogether, also the village is worth a look, lots of interesting shops there and good look out spot nearby over the river. We'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

i gave this hotel an average rating but given the limited options in the area, it's probably one of the better choices... it's not a new hotel and could def use some renovating, but the environment/ambience has potential. there are fire pits and cabanas/beds all around the grounds- thus it has the potential to be romantic and if you stretch your imagination, you almost feel as if you are on a safari... the grounds are vast and were decently landscaped even in the off season. when i stayed here, it seemed pretty empty, very quiet and not crowded. food - i nibbled a bit on the breakfast buffet, but it wasn't anything to get excited about nor criticize, never had any other meals at the restaurant and don't believe i actually saw more than 3 tables of people eating. again, you need to take into accout what's around - pretty much nothing... you can take a 10 minute walk into town but you're not going to find any fine dining nor 4 star hotels... this is a small, under developed area so set your expectations accordingly... we had a great time at the lodge but it's a distance from the falls, i would recommend this place for couples, based on the surroundings and walkways, nooks, etc... but it's far from the ritz, i do believe it to be the closest option, given the location. my review is more about the hotel in general and less about the room - the room is prob on par or below a holiday inn... ? the front desk and bell staff were helpful and service oriented. if you're typically a person who stays at top hotel chains, this may be the best you can get in the area but it's still not grand by any means. it does however have a woodsy/safari feel and the lobby and patio are decorated to give off that vibe.

I came here after the fiasco of the noisy St George, but this was also bad.
The hotel is over 30 years old and it shows. I have never seen a hotel so totally out of touch with its classification. How on earth did this get 4 stars?
Nothing to recommend it for and I am not too picky. None of the staff speaks English, that says enough. The worst is the rooms which are noisy , not from outside but inside noise. Doors close with as bang and it is heard in the whole corridor and all other noises people make in other rooms is also heard. Rooms are small, not cosy. TV is good, minibar expensive. Swimming pool nice but not as nice as I thought.
Airco good and can be switched off. Rooms have a balcony and I had a good view but it does not mean anything to me in view of the general impression of this old hotel.

Now I am going to try the Hotel Cataratas (the Argentinian one by that name).

I find it very difficult to say anything nice about this hotel, the only good thing about it was that the staff in the restaurant were nice at times. After that I'm afraid it is all negative. Air conditioning did not seem to be working at all, the room was boiling for the entire time we were there. Fortunately we didnt have to spend too much time in the hotel because we had trips organised every day. The staff on the front desk were extremely rude and unhelpful. The rooms didnt seem too clean nor did the restaurant. Also, very little choice in the restaurant for dinner. Cant really say its one to visit, avoid.

Oh and a cochroach at the restaraunt dinner table..

I wanted to vomit.

Spend the extra money and go next door, there are much better hotels in this filthy city.

This is quite middling hotel. On the plus side: the grounds are lush with a big pool, paths and a secluded feeling. The lobby area is adequate though unremarkable, and the staff was pleasant enough.

The rooms in the main hotel seemed a bit dated, but they're adequately comfortable. We had no problems with the water pressure (as other reviewers have commented).

On the negative side, the hotel staff was not helpful beyond the basics. Asked if they could recommend a tour agency, they said "yes". Upon pressing them did they give the address and directions (perhaps the front desk clerk was having a bad day).

The hotel has various lodges/cabanas which are about a block away from the main hotel faclity. They are roomy, with great modern bathrooms, but not convenient of you have people staying there and at the main building. Again, when we asked the front desk about getting another lodge or having those in our party move to the main hotel (so we could all be together), we were greeted with a "oh, that'd be difficult" response. Upon pressing, we found out that they had availability. Then they said it would be more expensive to move us all to cabanas. Again, we pressed, only to find out it would be CHEAPER to move to a lodge. Again, not the best customer service.

Lastly, be ware that the doorjams in the main hotel are difficult to close, the result of which is that to close your hotel room, you have to close it pretty hard. Thus making a loud slamming noise. Its rather annoying to be woken up early as everyone leaves to go on their tours, slamming the doors all up and down the hallway.

Don't be fooled by the hotel's website. The hotel urgently needs to be refurbished as it is all very much outdated. The rooms are noisy, the badrooms tiny and the waterpressure unsufficient.

The thing that bothered me the most is that the hotel staff (at the reception - the waiters were genuinly friendly) would only call for taxi's operated by their friends which - obviously - were extremely expensive. For example, a one way taxi ride to the waterfall would have cost us 70 pesos (the same amount you'd pay to the airport) if ordered through the hotels reception, while the SAME company charged us 30 pesos for a RETURN TRAVEL when we called them ourselves... (we think the taxi company has to pay the hotel the difference).
