“Picturesque property in a good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2014

Nicely maintained property on picturesque gronds, located just down the road from the "tres fronteras" marker and within walking distance to the center of town. The rooms are good sized and the buffet breakfast was quite good. As others have remarked, there is a bus stop across the street that will take gou to the entrance to the Iguazu National Park for 35 pesos. The ride takes 35-40 minutes. Overall, the service at the hotel was above-average but I found the staff to be somewhat aloof and not particularly friendly. I would have rated the hotel excellent but for the demeanor of the staff and the fact the hotel did not provide some of the little touches better hotels frequently provide such as complimentary coffee, tea and bottled water, a robe, bathroom slippers and finallyy, Kleenex.

Set in tropical gardens with river views, if you get one of the rooms facing it, the hotel offers a pleasant enough stay in a good location. We were very disappointed to learn that on our arrival the room we had selected was unavailable. We had booked through Last Minute specifically for a room with views of the river and tropical jungle. The young man on the desk was apologetic but did not offer to move us to the room we booked at the first opportunity. The hotel needs to ensure that it's booking procedures with on-line travel companies are improved to avoid this type of recurrence. The staff in the dining room were totally naff, and could clearly do with some retraining in customer service. There is no differentiation in seating between a la carte diners and those using the buffet and you are requested to wait to be seated. It isn't acceptable to have a table booking and have to queue within sight of people eating their meals for over an hour. This long wait was aggravated by the attitude of the waiters who showed complete disinterest in finding you a table in a timely manner. Tables were vacated but not cleared causing people to lose patience, jump the queue and seat themselves. The buffet food wasn't great either, the meat was tough, the food tepid and the choice, after waiting ages for our dinner on two consecutive evenings, quite limited. After that, we simply avoided the hotel restaurant and went down town instead. However, breakfast (especially the bread), was excellent with plenty of choice.

The room we were allocated was small and overlooked over the reception area, but it was clean and well appointed. The Internet connection was, however, intermittent and only worked well in the reception and dining room area. The location of the hotel is great, with architecture and furnishings that reflect the rainforest. We particularly liked the verandah where we relaxed and enjoyed sampling several excellent bottles of Malbec during our stay, whilst watching fist-sized yellow butterflies and tropical birds drift by. There is a swimming pool which we didn't use and it's easy and safe to walk down to the charming, laid back town of Iguazu from where you can easily and cheaply get a local bus right to the park entrance on the Argentinian side of the falls. We didn't manage to work out how to get the bus down town or to the falls from outside the hotel (more information from the front desk would have been helpful) but they did book a taxi driver to take us to the Brazilian side from the hotel which was not at an inflated price and also arranged our taxi back to the airport.

The hotel is lovely, and it's a shame that the management does not tackle the recurring problems with the staff which can so easily spoil a traveller's stay.

Room Tip: Request one facing the river

The hotel still has a very good standard. The location is about 500 m from the town Iguazu in a quiet area. The surrounding garden is tranquil, the service efficient and friendly. The restaurant offers a good variety, but if they have two consecutive days the buffet, the food could change. Breakfast is excellent. I liked this place seven years ago and I was not disappointed coming back. I can highly recommend it. A bus stop taking you to the Cataratas is opposite the hotel, cost at present $40 Pesos one way. Return $35 and the bus driver dropped me off at the hotel. Eager taxi or remis drivers tried to pursuade me accepting their service, but I declined. It does not take longer with public transport and the buses are also air conditioned. The rooms are spacious and the bed king size.

Room Tip: I stayed at first floor room 106, which faces a quiet area

Despite some negative reviews, we were happy with our stay. The room was clean and spacious. The restaurant at the hotel was good with variety of good food and wine. Staff was supportive.

The hotel is walking distance from the main city area in a quiet but safe street.

I don't know where to start with this review. I am currently in a single bed a metre apart from my fiancé who is in the other single bed because we had to move rooms due to the stench in the room they put us in. Our only option has been to sleep separately in a slightly less stench ridden room. I use the word sleep in the loosest sense of the word as through my ear plugs I can still hear the rave going on outside. I am not one to complain about raves as I love Ibiza but this is ridiculous.

The hotel is NOT 4 star in anyway. Do not stay here if you have any expectations of a a pleasant stay or a good night's sleep. The staff are unhelpful - in a tourist destination with one big feature they can offer no assistance on tours others than 'the bus is outside'. Terrible terrible terrible.

Also, we booked a 'superior' room - we dread to think how pokey and smelly a normal room is.

Again I had read some bad reviews here about the hotel but I'd already made the booking. So I was a little nervous when we were approaching in the taxi. Especially as driving thru the small town you get to see some dumps of hotels. The esturion hotel was a truly welcomed sight. Staff were mostly helpful and did assist us with our 'luggage that didn't arrive with us'
Breakfast wasn't bad either
Don't be alarmed by negative reviews this place has class and heart and soul to boot too

We stayed two nights to see Iguazu Falls. As we entered the room, we were pleased to note that we had a view across the Iguazu River. But as we looked closer we saw the flower box outside the room was crowded with weeds, the furniture was showing signs of hard wear, and an electrical cord was repaired with black tape. That evening was the biggest problem: the air conditioner was not cooling the room. The next day we learned others in our group experienced the same problem. We, and the others, had difficulty sleeping. The next day I reported the problem to a man at the front desk. That night the air conditioner was better but still not cooling sufficiently. We also had to ask for towels that afternoon because the maid failed to replace the ones she had removed from the room.

We thought the breakfast and evening meals were OK. Having been in Brazil, we were pleased to be able to buy some reasonably priced, drinkable wine. While not near the park, the hotel is within walking distance of the monument marking the junction of Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. Some of our group reported the pool was very nice.
