We stayed in Hotel Lilian for a few days in March. It was a great base. It was very clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was good and it was nice and quiet. The only down-side I can think of is that it did not have a swimming pool whereas other hotels/hostels in the town do. But, if this is not a priority for you I would definitely recommend staying here.

Hotel Lilian is a good bet if you are looking for something clean and cheap to stay in. The rooms are clean and pretty good in size for the price. Bathroom tends to get wet cos the shower is just an open area in the bathroom so the place gets wet. They do give you a floor squeegy though.

Contrary to the reviews about the pricing you get in Frommers or for that matter, Lonely Planet, the prices of hotels and hostels are not as cheap in Argentina as these books will have you believe!

Hotel Lilian actually works out cheaper for 2-3 people than the Marcopolo Inn Hostel (opposite St George Hotel on the right and across from the bus station). The double room which has a double bed and a single bed is 150 pesos if you pay cash and 165 pesos if you pay by credit card! Yes it is a little known secret since they dont even advertise it on their rates board in the hotel but they do take credit cards!

You cant really beat the location and the price. It is 3 blocks from St George (which charges US$110 for a double room as at 20 Feb 2009). Looking at the hotels nearby (Los Helechos right adjacent to Hotel Lilian and St George the block after Los Helechos) I dont think you will get anything better than Hotel Lilianfor the price and location.

You get a continental breakfast for the price too. You can use their lone internet computer in the lobby. Also, they do have power limitations - one night, we had not enought electricity for the TV and the room lights. The air-con continued to work though.

Service is friendly - you can ask for a flask of hot water at night but remember to bring your own cups cos for some strange reason, while they will give you a flask, they will not let you have the cups!

We spent two nights here earlier this month. Hotel Lilian was clean, comfortable, and had wonderful staff.

The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the main road, which is where the bus station and lots of reasonably priced restaurants (exit the hotel, take a left, then another left) are located. This was convenient for catching the bus to the Argentine side of the Iguazu Falls (Cataratas Bus - 5 pesos each way, about a 45 minute ride, runs every 20 minutes) or buses into Brazil and Praguay.

Our room was basic and cheap (120 pesos/night), but just what we needed since our days were spent out visiting the Falls. Breakfast (pastry, orange juice, tea) was average for Argentina.

I worked in the area for 3 days & also visited the falls. The staff were very helpful with my travel planning - I drove to a variety of places in Misioness and around town & to the falls. They were prompt to help with anything I needed at the hotel and generally very friendly.

The rate I 'discussed' with them by email before I came was much higher than other reviews of the place I had seen in Frommers, etc, and indeed when I arrived their [much lower] rates were displayed at the reception desk [same as at many of the other similar hostels in Iguazu]. I never identified myself as having discussed rates, rather just walked in and paid for some nights & they never asked. A single room was about $35 USD.

Breakfast was very light, and they graciously kept some things in the fridge for me. Internet in the lobby was generally OK, occasionally unavailable becasue used by other guests or during a storm. Bathroom and room were OK, AC was OK but October was pleasant anyway, so ? The lack of a shower curtain seemed un-necessarily rustic. Parking on the street OK. TV OK. Beds hard but OK.

Only complaint: The tile in the public courtyard is Extremely slippery.

Hotel Lillian

I stayed there with my wife in April 2008 and found everything the same as the reviewer from 2006. The only negative was the breakfast was a little light although it was sufficient(just being fussy).

The room was clean and spacious and the bathroom was also clean but they really needed a shower curtain as the water splashes all over the floor and you can slip if you are not careful

They were always helpful and the room was clean.

The neighbourhood was walking distance to the bus station where we travelled to Iquazu falls. They contacted the air port transport for us. We walked everywhere and found it safe at night

We booked by email from Buenos Aires and they were prompt. The price was very reasonable.
