“Not our favourite hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

This was a disappointing hotel. It was the third and final one of our South American trip that our helpful travel company 'Imagine Latin America' had arranged for us. The room and swimming pool were fantastic. But the unair-conditioned restaurant played deafing Engish pop music most certainly was not. I like to listen to the natural tropical evening sounds please! The
'a la carte' was identical for 3 nights. We enjoy eating outside on hot evenings but the staff made it quite clear that they wanted us inside. The service was appallingly slow with no butter on Friday. The garden was totally unkempt resulting in no flowers therefore no pretty tropical birds and butterflies. Even the forest was disappointingly silent, I was hoping for a dawn chorus to put mine here in the village of Shoscombe to shame!
Having said all that the Iguazzu Falls are absolutely mindblowing and the hotel is a lovely location for both national parks.

The setting amidst the forest is absolutely gorgeous and I would recommend this jungle experience to anyone visiting the falls. it is so much nicer than staying in the city. Downside is that you are isolated and if you do not have a car you will fall victim to their restaurant. The barbecue night was a fiasco - overpriced, served very late (everybody was falling asleep on the table) and dried out meat.

We arrived in Iguasu Brasil and were not met by our arranged guide. After waiting sometime we decided to get a taxi which costs a flat $45us to travel from Brasil to Argentina. Australian, US and Canadian tourists have to pay a reciprocity tax which you must pay online prior to getting to the border. This is a relatively new arrangement ( introduced one day before we arrived) and many people get caught out and it will cost you hours if you don't organise beforehand. Thanks to a fantastic taxi driver Leonid we were able to get our way through this red tape and eventually to our jungle hideaway La Cantera only 3 hrs late. yes it was a nightmare no thanks to Argentinian immigration. This hotel is quite away from town where there are lots of restaurants. Taxis are relatively cheap. We were generally happy with the hotel without it being great. The rooms are quite good, the surrounds are lovely. The restaurant was good with meals that were ok enough. Breakfast was basic without being brilliant. Alternatives were offered at breakfast but unless you observed someone else requesting something there was no way of knowing what was available. Communication and responsiveness could have been a bit better but service overall was ok with some staff better than others as is the case in most hotels. I have read other reviews and we didn't have any really poor service as described in other reviews. No one ever mentioned a shuttle but we never needed it anyway. We liked the place and Iguasu falls both Brasil and Argentina are sensational. Loved the whole place and the jungle touch at La Cantera adds to the experience. Yes stay here by all means there are more upmarket hotels but this is quirky and different and the falls will be your main focus anyway.

i loved the location of the lodge - right in the middle of the jungle! since the hotel is a little far from the city center, they provide you with a free shuttle van (round trip), which is a great perk. taxis are also very reasonably priced when paying in pesos. breakfast was included; however, it's best to go to the city center for lunch/dinner - the food is alot better. since there was 6 of us, we scheduled a taxi to drop us off and pick us up at Iguazú Park, where we spent the day. the hotel also made arrangements for us to get picked up from Iguazú Airport in Brazil - be sure to pay the 'reciprocity fee' online of you're traveling from the US (this caused us major delays).

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

It was a real shame that our visit started off on such a bad note as it is difficult to get over that. We arrived about 8pm having been travelling since about 10am so fairly tired. We had seen on the internet that there was a restaurant on site so we imagined we would be able to eat there but when we mentioned this at reception she said (in a VERY offhand manner) that it was fully booked. The hotel is a little out of town (5km actually) so we had to put our bags in the room and get a taxi into town, find a restaurant, eat, get a taxi back before we culd even think about unpacking. Added to that, the receptionist seemed unable to find anyone to help us take our bags to our particular Jungle Lodge so in the end we traipsed off there by ourselves fed up waiting. We mentioned that we had been promised a 'Welcome drink' but she just shrugged and said it wasn't available. Breakfast the next morning was adequate but nothing stunning.
However, I have to say the room was very nice (although a little bit more style over substance as not everything worked!) with a lovely balcony with fly screens all round it, lovely air conditioning, beautiful bathroom with all mod cons supplied and a real 'jungle' feel about the place.
There is a free shuttle by the way which if you ask, will take you to town for 2 hours either in the morning, afternoon or evening at a pre-set time. On the second evening we were there, having found our feet, we got the free shuttle into town, had a meal and got the shuttle back but there would have been no way we could do that on the first evening as we were too late for the pre-set departure.
So to sum up, the level of customer service needs a bit of attention, staff look bored and look as if actually you are rather bothering them, and some minor maintenance issues need attention but it does have a lot going for it.
(I have scored it 'average' for location but I suppose it depends what you are looking for! If you wanted to make your own arrangements to see the Falls you would have to get a taxi into town or get their shuttle, if you want a nice relaxing break away from everything this would suit you perfectly!)

We stayed for 2 nights. The room was large, clean and very nice. Although there were 4 rooms we were never aware of the neighbours. The window view was into the forest. The WiFi did not work in the room, but it did in reception and the restaurant area. The staff were very friendly, the food was good and the whole atmosphere very good.It is isolated and not within walking distance of anything, but, so are most of the hotels. The food is good you don't have to eat anywhere else.

This is a great spot to relax and rest after the exausting trip to the Cataratas.
It is not a resort, so do not expect a lot of hotel activities and facilities, or a wide variety of food.

The lodge has a great location, in the middle of the jungle, but with very easy access by car (you do need a car).
The staff is extremely friendly and the service is simple but good and efficient.
Our room was great, we stayed in the bigger ones, with a huge jacuzzi in the balcony.

Perfect for a 2-3 day getaway from the big city!

Room Tip: The standard rooms in the first floor are not sound proof. You can listen to the noise of the upstai...
