“Great location, but no water and lots of bedbugs”
Reviewed March 2, 2011

We stayed at the end of Feb/beginning of March 2011. It has both good points and bad points, but for us the bad points well outweighed the good ones.

We booked a double room for three days - it was well priced, spacious, with A/C, and an ensuite toilet and shower that was clean and comfortable enough. The hostel staff are friendly, there is free wifi, a pool, and a free breakfast. And it's directly opposite the bus station in Iguazu. All good so far.

The cons
On the morning of the second day the water supply dried up, so no flushing toilets for three days. The staff were apologetic but said there was nothing that they could do. (However, local restaurants and bars all seemed to have water, as did some parts of the hostel).
The kitchen was small, and again there was no water to wash up anything.
The breakfasts were nothing special - coffee, cereal and dry bread rolls - if we'd been able to use the kitchen we'd have done our own.
But by far the worst thing was that our bedroom was infested with bedbugs of some sort - easily the worst we've come across in 4 months of travelling across the world - every morning we woke up to more bites and more bedbug specks on the sheets. Nasty.

In fairness they refunded 30% of the stay for the lack of water and seemed shocked when we told them about the bedbugs, but our overall experience was not a happy one. This may or may not be a typical experience, but we felt we had to report it nonetheless.

We stayed at the Marcopolo Inn for two nights, and while the location was very convenient, the overall experience was very poor. Most importantly, because there was no water! Dripping with sweat in the jungle and being unable to shower is a pretty unpleasant thing, particularly when you´re staying in one of the more expensive hostels in a town. To make matters worse, the staff was full of transparent excuses for the problem, blaming the water company and claiming it was the same everywhere in the same neighborhood when that was absolutely untrue.

Moreover, the pool, which is prominently featured in their advertisements, was completely out of service, and a local informed us that it had been so for as long as he could remember.

Would have gotten three stars with water, but you can do a whole lot better in Iguazu..

I'll list them
Pros:
Virtually in front of the bus station (I saved some cab fare and then you can travel by the local buses to the parks and save money as well).
Lots of supermarkets & restaurants nearby.
Great breakfast!!! (one of the best ever actually)
Beautiful place to hang out, cool kitchen, ping pong table, swimming pool
Big bedrooms
a/c
People hung out at the hostel but I couldn't hear them from my room.
Pizza night for 20 pesos...

Cons
Hot water was scarce: you either freeze or get burnt when taking a shower. I talked to the staff but problem wasn't solved. I slept there 2 nights.
a/c leaked water. It wasn't on when we where there but the wall was very humid and I could smell it.
I didn't bring my computer and had to use the ones in the lobby. I was very disappointed to find the USB ports smashed.

It's a great value for its cost. I'd recommend it because you're hardly ever there. Expect no nightlife in the town rather than socializing at the hostel. It's a tiny town.

just opposite to the bus station. a supermarket next to it.
helpful staff. but the room is a bit old and the pool has been dried and no air-con during our stay (it's ok, we even feel cold at night, rainy and winter time in May..)
the only bad thing was the loud voice outside at night.. seems disco/party music during mid-night next to the bus station

The location of this hostel is great right outside the bus station. The hostel itself was Ok, the dorm was clean but the shower hardly worked and when we asked for it to be fixed it wasnt done. The staff tried to be helpful but ended up giving us all the wrong information for the falls - a little annoying. The swimming pool is also not working, we later found out it hasnt worked for 3 years! I feel this should have been mentioned before we paid. The kitchen hardly had anything in, and the two very small dirty fridges were horrid and you would NOT put food in here. We would not stay here again.
