Even though the hotel is nothing special its a perfect place to stay when visiting the Argentina side of the falls. Excellent views and all the tracks are right on the doorstep. Service at the hotel was excellent. We are vegetarian and all are catering needs were catered for. Rooms were ok, found ants in the bed on the second night but this was quickly remedied. A must stay especially if you are there for a a couple of days.

The #1 ranking of this hotel on the list is a bit of a misnomer. To stay in the park, you have 2 choices - this Sheraton and Belmond Hotel das Cataratas on the Brazilian side. The Brazil side seems to have better views of the falls; the Argentine side has better access to trails and viewing points. With crowds of cruise shippers, sub-par service, and a construction mess, we were less than impressed with the property itself. BUT you can't beat the location. Pros: Great access to the trails, wildlife right on the property, fantastic views of the falls, clean and spacious rooms, and English-speaking staff very accustomed to tourists. Cons: Long lines at check-in, long waits for food/drinks, slow elevators, few food menu choices, and construction while we were there meant no patio for falls viewing. They upgraded our room to a falls-vew suite, but that meant it wasn't ready until hours later.

Maybe they were overwhelmed by the cruise ship crowds (we were traveling on our own and felt vastly outnumbered), but check-in and the food/drink service really was abysmal. Expect the level of service that you would expect from hotel staff that know you didn't have much of a choice.

Room Tip: Hands down, spend the money for a fall-view room. We sat for hours and watched toucans fly above the...

The convenience of being in the park and the fact that we used points to pay for the rooms rather than $300+ rate made the hotel the right choice for use. The town of Iguazu is at least a 20 minute cab ride away. By staying at the hotel we were able to do the entire upper and lower circuits (see below for more on this) shortly after the park opened when there were very few people so it was easier to take photos and enjoy the view. We did the lower circuit again later in the day and it was very crowded. We are also able to return to the hotel mid-day to rest and swim; even though we were there in the spring it was 90 degrees and there aren't many, if any, air conditioned places in the park.

The boat to Isla San Martin wasn't running when we were there because the dock had been washed away but I think you would be able to see everything on the Argentina side in one day without rushing if you stayed at the Sheraton and started early. We took the train to Garganta del Diablo in the afternoon and although we had to wait for the train to arrive, everyone waiting was able to get on the train.

The hotel has an amazing view of La Garganta del Diablo from the lobby and restaurant. If you don't have a room with a view of the falls, be sure to ask the hotel front desk for a key to access the roof deck. Since I spent a lot of time at the front desk because I had to have the keys reprogrammed every single day of our stay (I was not the only one with this problem), I know that the front desk staff does not consistently offer this to guests.

Although the front desk had its problems, in advance of our arrival I corresponded with the hotel to arrange for a driver to take us to Brazil one day. They gave me the names of 2 travel agencies- one inside the hotel and one in the commercial building below the hotel. The latter was cheaper ($140 for 4 people for 8 hours) and the driver was great. He was very solicitous even though we spoke both Spanish and Portuguese; he answered our questions and pointed out the (very few) sites along the way. Definitely cheaper than a bus tour and it allowed us to set our schedule.

The rooms were recently renovated but are very small. Rooms with 2 (full size) beds have chairs and a side table, along with a small built-in dresser/desk, and there isn't much empty floor space. Rooms with 1 bed had more space to move around.

As is the case in all remote places, you are a captive audience so food at the hotel is expensive. Breakfast is free for all guests and is a good spread of hot and cold items. We found all of the food to be very good. The bar/lounge on the first floor is cheaper than the restaurant but still expensive. The restaurants in the park close when the park closes but are cheaper than the hotel, although by no means inexpensive.

For those interested in taking the Full Moon Walk, which in my opinion was not worth the $50, you need to take a cab or car to the main entrance of the park. You will not be able to join the walk from inside the park. The hotel will arrange for a car or cab (it was about $12 o/w or $20 roundtrip).

Although the signs say that the lower circuit isn't wheelchair accessible because there are stairs, you can access all of the viewing platforms except 3 without climbing any stairs. To do the lower circuit without stairs, you need to enter by the exit. Just past where the path from the hotel ends, take the trail to the left and ignore the sign to continue straight for the upper and lower circuit (turn before you reach the old hotel which was being renovated, apparently to house exhibits). This path is accessible to non-Sheraton hotel guests; walking from the park entrance the path is to the right just after the old hotel. Continue down the path, which is a bit steep but will be downhill going to the falls and uphill coming back. At the restaurant/bathroom facilities, there are 2 trails to the right. Take the second trail which has a handicap sign. If you take the wrong trail, you'll soon encounter stairs so you'll know you took the wrong trail. The right trail leads to Dos Hermanas falls (2 sisters falls) and the Salto Chico, which is only accessible by 5-10 stairs but it is a small waterfall so you won't miss much if you have to skip it. The trail then continues to the viewing platform for Bossetii Falls, which is accessible by ramps but is a "splash zone" so you will get wet if you get to close. Afterwards continue on the trail past the stairs for the boat dock to Isla San Martin to the last 2 viewing platforms. There will be a sign for stairs noting when you can't proceed further without encountering stairs (i.e., the viewing platforms for Alvar Nunez and Lanuesse Falls).

Stayed 2 nights. Hotel is very nice overall, grounds are wonderful, pool lovely, views fabulous. Staff were very helpful. We had a jungle view which was ok, and balcony with furniture to sit out. We had looked forward to rooftop terrace but it was under repair & locked unless they opened it for you or you managed to obtain a key. It was not lit at night so couldn't be used.
Buffet breakfast was good.. Dinner was very disappointing for us given the cost. I ordered a la carte, and my friend had the buffet.... very surprised at how poor our steaks were. The Aqua restaurant in Iguazu was recommended so we had front desk book a reservation & cab to town (about $60Can round trip). Our meals were fabulous!!! Prices were 1/4 of the Sheraton dinner cost. As arranged with cab driver, we shopped after dinner for an hour and he met us back at the restaurant for return trip to the Sheraton.

We went here with a Tauck group and this was by far the most disappointing hotel of the trip. It was great being in the park but the hotel is run down, the bar was understaffed and very slow. Took over 40 minutes just to get a glass of wine. The food from the bar was terrible. We did enjoy the pool and the trails, though the hot tub was not clean.

If you are going to be here to see the falls, why not stay in a hotel that offers a spectacular view of the falls right from your room. We enjoyed our two nights here in a falls view room with comfortable beds, a nice patio and great view. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food and drink was just fine. Easy access to the water, a nice large pool and comfortable outdoor gathering area off the main lobby made for a very satisfying experience. Highly recommended!

It's worth spending a little extra money to stay inside the National Park. The hotel is nice and quite. The rooms are simple with all the necessary amenities. We had a garden view room. From the large terrace outside the bar area you get a great view of the falls and that's the best place to have your sundowner.
The hotel restaurant is downstairs and offers buffet / a la carte food. The breakfast was ok, we always opted for a la carte dinner. Their steaks, especially the rib eye were fantastic.
The staff is helpful and friendly. If you use the pool, don't expect too much from their pool food menu.
Overall it was a relaxing stay and the having the liberty to just walk over to see the waterfalls any time during the day is worth the expense.

Room Tip: It's not worth the extra expense to have a room facing the waterfalls. Garden view is just fine.
