“Unexplained credit card charges”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

We knew before our visit that the hotel was poor value but we chose it for the location. What we did not expect was, having paid our bill in full in cash, the extra unexplained charges on our card. The hotel has not responded to our queries.

The following general comments will not be new:
The Sheraton is wonderfully situated inside the park and very close to the falls. Hence you can visit them or the superb nature walk early before crowds build. The falls themselves are a magnificent spectacle. There are good views of the falls from the hotel (but not vice versa) and its grounds.
The hotel itself is aesthetically unattractive and no attempt has been made to incorporate it in its setting, e.g by trees.
The internet connection is very poor which is compounded by the hotel only making it available for free in the lobby.
There are excellent amenities at the hotel including spacious grounds, a large swimming pool, big scale public rooms, air conditioning to cater for the humidity and an attractive exterior position to sit out in. The hotel is very clean.

Other personal comments include:
Service from the staff varied between attentive and cordial to lackadaisical and indifferent.
The hotel obviously caters for coach parties so there can be peaks and troughs in e.g. reception.
Of the three nights we stayed there, we arrived late on the first one and so did not eat dinner . On the second night we went to the dining room at a very busy time and the buffet, which we avoided, was a scrum. On the third evening we arrived early to avoid the crush and we ate a perfectly satisfactory a la carte meal in relative peace. Buffet breakast was perfectly satisfactory.

Overall we are very pleased to have stayed there, but this is attributable to its location and amenities not to its charm.

Room Tip: The lower "jungle facing" rooms provide an excellent view of the car park.

This is the only hotel that is available within Iguazu National Park, and as a result of this they are able to charge some really premium prices, but it is worth it to be able to walk to the falls direct for your hotel, and to see the falls from when you relax but the pool or on your balcony.

The food served in the restaurant was pretty good, and the rooms are decent size and comfortable.

One key advantage is that once the park has closed for the night, you can still stay in the falls area as a guest of the hotel, so you can see the falls without the large crowd.

We paid $400+ for our jungle view room, expecting that it would be a nice vista from the room and we could always go to the terrace bar to enjoy the falls view from there. Unfortunately this was not the case as there were renovations and the terrace bar windows were covered in black plastic sheeting. Also the construction noise didn't make you want to linger for a drink. They did offer drinks on the lower ground floor but the view was not very good from there so it was a bust.

As others have said, the hotel and rooms are dated. However, after awhile you become mesmerized by the surroundings and forget about the hotel.

Service was a little inconsistent. At check in, they were very nice and sent us some complimentary sparkling wine and chocolates for our honeymoon. Service at the restaurant was also very good. However, it was difficult to get information on the park itself and get a map, we kept being referred to the tour guide rep (who was not there). We asked where the ATM was and were not given very clear directions, just that it was meters outside the front door (it was not).

We had the buffet dinner which was fairly good (very tender beef) and got to try some local river fish. Breakfast buffet was also good, the scrambled egg whites and champagne at breakfast were greatly appreciated.

Taxis booked through the hotel were expensive so we used the taxi driver that we had from the airport to take us across to Brazilian side for 300 pesos.

All in all I would recommend staying here one night because it allows you to enter the park at 8am when it opens and have the trails to yourself. You can also walk the track to diablo without waiting for the train which usually brings the crowds. For a longer stay I would suggest staying at the Hotel Das Cataratas on the Brazilian side which was a sublime experience.

I stayed 1 night at the end of January 2014. (The temperatures and humidity were unbelievably high) I haven't stayed in many Sheratons around the world but I would guess they are a similar theme - comfortable, functional, but not necessarily cosy. I thought the included breakfast was excellent and the staff friendly. The location is excellent, but still a walk to the walks :) I ate in the bar and the restaurant and found them both fine. I was happy with a forest view room - it was too hot to be outside on the balcony, and the view was amazing from the public areas (bar, restaurant/breakfast, lounge). My two criticisms: (1) no internet access in the room (Hotel Das Cataratas on Brazil side has excellent reliable fast internet in the room), and (2) the currency rates. I pre-booked my room but it was pay-at-stay (not pre-paid). The room rate is quoted in US$. At the time I was there, the converted quoted room rate in ARS$ was at a rate of (approx from memory) US$1 = ARS$8 (pretty much the official rate). But if I want to change US$ for ARS$ cash, the rate is US$1 = ARS$5.something. Very disappointing. I know they aren't a money exchange, but that just seems wrong. Overall though the location can't be beaten for early morning walks to photograph toucans before the park opens.

Since my Japanese husband wanted to see the Iguazu Falls and we happened to be in Argentina again, and since I cannot walk through difficult terrain for miles on end, we booked 3 nights at the Sheraton Ressort, which partly overlooks the Falls on the Argentinian side! I actually paid an extortinate price in advance to stay there ca. $400,-- a night, bed and breakfast.

This hotel was obviously built in the 1980s and NOTHING has been changed since the 80s! The place is in a bad state of repair to start with. Despite a fly-screen on our window which was permanently closed, the bedroom and the bathroom was full of mosquitos on our last night. This, in that area is dangerous! I wanted to spend an hour or two in the Duty Free Shop on the border between Argentina and Brazil, to buy a new watch since mine was broken. As this hotel only works with one taxi company, I had to pay an extortionate price for a taxi (36 Euros!). Also the food in the restaurant (there were no restaurants nearby open at night!) was expensive and disgusting, we sent back a soup (too bitter), we sent back a steak (more or less raw..at least they did not charge us for that!), my husband(who rarely complains), sent back a rissotto (too salty). We were obviously only paying for the musical accompanyment of the Paraguayan harp during dinner. Only thing positive about this hotel was the excellent house rosé wine! My recommendation: pull down this Sheraton Ressort, build a new hotel and resort and change the francise. We felt it was poor value for the money, in fact daylight robbery!!!

Room Tip: If you must stay here, take a room on the 'jungle side' it is somewhat cheaper than a room w...

Only stayed one night would say hotel needs refurb which may of been happening as some rooms closed off, but even so rooms still very small and bathrooms very cramped. Not what you expect for the price but location is fantastic within the park with stunning views from the balcony if you are lucky enough to be on the right side. Don't bother with a trip to the roof top viewing area as was pretty treacherous. Had bar food which was ok and buffet breakfast which was as expected. Think Sheraton/Starwood should think about rebuilding as whole place looked outdated.
