Mamuna
Ranked #3 of 5 Hotels in Uspallata
Reviewed June 11, 2011

My husband and I spent three nights, including New Year's Eve, at Mamuna. This place is special! We didn't know exactly what to expect, as there weren't many reviews out there. We chose it based on the website, its funny, new-agey feel, and the extreme friendliness, responsiveness and flexibility of Silvina, the owner. We made the right choice and will always remember our time at this unique rural property.

Mamuna is rustic, so don't expect luxury. But the cute little orange-pink cabins scattered around its moonscape grounds are attractive both inside and out, and leave nothing to be desired. They're a bit dark inside, but this makes the view of the mountains and dramatic skies more striking. Silvina runs a restaurant that doesn't have a menu, but she can work with your needs. Her New Year's Eve multi-course dinner was excellent. Nothing (food or lodging) is very expensive.

In addition to Silvina's charms, dog lovers will appreciate her posse of big, lovable dogs. There's a hike to some petroglyphs down the road that Mamuna is on, in the opposite direction from Uspallata - it's worth a couple hours of your time. The walk down a poplar-lined lane to town is also pleasant, but rather long (maybe 7k) - I don't think anyone but us has ever come to Mamuna without their own transportation (our rental car was mysteriously unavailable at the airport, and we had to get a ride from an airport employee - it's a couple of hours away from the Mendoza airport), and we did feel somewhat isolated, but that gave us more time to relax and enjoy our unusual lodgings.

Mamuna is somewhat indescribable, but the photos on its website are very accurate and give you a good sense of what to expect: http://www.mamunaposada.com.ar/ (don't be deterred by the song!). We really enjoyed our time here, and would stay at Mamuna again in a heartbeat - I hope we get a chance to.
