“An acceptable option for a late night arrival.”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

My girlfriend and I arrived into Uspallata late at night after having to deal with roadworks coming in from the Chilean side. This was the only hotel that had accomodation availability although it wasnt our first choice.
Rooms are basic. Beds are old but clean. Service was average. Breakfast was the highlight.
Set in beautiful grounds.

It’s not easy to write a review about the Gran Hotel Uspallata. The hotel isn’t that good but we liked it even when it was special. The rooms are big and very clean, the location is good and it’s really quiet. You can’t expect that from every hotel in Uspallata because the road to Chile with all the trucks is going through. But the best days of the hotel are definitely over. It feels like you are back in the 70s or 80s. You can't describe it. They urgently have to do redecorate the whole hotel. Besides that everything was fine and we would stay there again.

Do not confuse the hostel and hotel as many seem to do so even if they are located both on the same beautiful and large ground.
For the hotel this was our 4th stay, we love the large rooms although they are outmoded, but is always disappointing, only table d ' hôte restaurant deserves a note. The buffet breakfast is excellent with beautiful fruit. The pool was closed in February. The wi - fi connection worked only in public areas.

Quality price interesting if you pay cash.
For the hostel:
The most: the price, the land, good connection wi - fi in the lounge and on the terrace, beautiful terrace.
Least: very small rooms, no storage, breakfast consisting only of bread and instant coffee, restaurant of the hostel closed for lunch, restaurant open hotel.

It is not a cheap hotel and I feel we didn't get our money's worth. We stayed there for a couple of nights occupying two bedrooms opposite each other because there are no suites available. The rooms are big and the beds are quite comfortable, although the sheets are of very poor quality. The hot water was tepid, and we were told that they were having some problems with the boilers. I cannot comment about the restaurant because we ate out, but I can say that the breakfast, which is included in the price, is not so good, for example, the orange juice was artificial and there was no ham, but the coffe was quite good.

It should have been a good hotel, but no more. The heating does not work properly: a good heating is a must in the Uspallata winter! We had problems also in the bathroom with leaking water...The service is not good. They are not very nice in the front-desk and we had some problems in the restaurant: the only night we tried to have dinner at the hotel restaurant, we waited for almost one hour after which we gave up... I would try another hotel if I went back to Uspallata.

I booked this hotel in www.hoteis.com and when I arrived, they told us that there wasn't any reservation. I don't know who made the wrong thing, but be cautious because they said that they don't make reservations on line. And there are offers on line... Poor service, rude front desk and food service very slow. If you don't like a hotel full of children yelling in the hall... run away from this hotel. Internet is only in the lobby and is very slow.

Room Tip: Don't go

After a long day in the Andes we decided to stay in a hotel that was a bit different from the ordinary. Lonely Planet described it as a Peron-time high society mountain hotel and this seemed very appealing. Although a lot of time has passed from this period, we hoped to get a glimpse of that time.
The first impression was very good - large garden, hotel looked like a palace, very quiet (as it is outside of Uspallata).
But then we entered the hotel. This changed everything. The receptionist seemed very annoyed by us showing up without reservation. Yes, they had free rooms but after we told we wanted see it before checking-in (as the price was quite steep in Argentinian standards) she practically got angry with us. But still showed us couple of options.
The rooms were horrible. Small and horrible. Wallpaper peeling off the walls, dirty laundry (visible stains) and a distinctive smell in the rooms. Maybe she showed us the worst rooms in the hotel as we disturbed her with our presence but the facts remained and we did not stay there.
We are not particularly picky but asking a very high price for a very low quality product is unacceptable. We finally went to Los Condores - it's cheaper, it's central and it has large and clean rooms.
