We stayed 3 nights at The Plaza Italia in October, and found it very comfortable and clean. Mercedes and her husband Tito were gracious hosts, and their son Javier, who lives with his wife and child, was a great tour guide. He has a great sense of humour, an inquisitive mind, and is well informed in the wine tasting tours. His tours are very small, private affairs. Our favourite place was San Diego, a small family run operation, with a very nice hostess named Natalia.
The location if the B&B is great, only 2 to 3 blocks from Sarmiento St. with it's great restaurant scene. Try "Azafran", you won't regret it. Also, it is just a short walk through the main plaza to the pedestrian only shopping area.
All in all, a nice place to stay, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

I'll begin with the one and only negative at Plaza italia: the ground floor front room fronts directly onto a busy sidewalk and plaza and is quite noisy. BUT, there are so many positive points, starting with the very helpful and very, very charming hosts, Mercedes and Tito. The room we stayed in was otherwise comfortable and well appointed, and the several other guests we spoke to were very pleased with theirs. The common areas are very pleasant, and breakfasts are tasty and generous.
Above all, if you want to visit area vintners, STAY HERE. Javier, your hosts' son, a terrific guy who speaks excellent English, will lead you on a tour of several vinyards culminating in a delicious late lunch of several courses, each one paired with a fine wine.

Plaza Italia was truly an outstanding place. Mercedes, Tito and Javier were great hosts. We highly recommend the wine tours that Javier takes you on. The tours are well worth it and Javier has the local contacts to make the tours personal. If you want a local experience in Mendoza, stay here. They take care of you - even on Mothers Day when we needed reservations in a local restaurant. Outstanding!

I would highly recommend the Plaza Italia B&B to anyone planning a visit to Mendoza. My husband and I stayed here for several nights after a short but dismal stint at a nearby hostel. We were warmly welcome by our hosts, Mercedes and Tito, who greatly eclipsed the helpfulness of our usually very complete guide book with regard to the city, the park, restaurants and shopping. Our room was very comfortable, the breakfasts wonderful, and the location prime. Their son, Javier, runs private wine tours, which are a "cannot miss" for anyone visiting Mendoza. After touring Argentina for more than three weeks, it was perhaps the highlight of our entire trip - pretty profound considering all the country has to offer. As a prior poster noted, this is not the typically crowded wine tasting experience to which we had become accustomed (coming from California). We were given very intimate and detailed tours of the wineries we visited, in addition to a wonderful lunch, breathtaking scenery, and Javier's indepth knowledge of the region (not to mention personality abounding). Thank you for everything!

We just got back from S. America and can't wait to return. Plaza Italia is party to blame. Tito and Mercedes could not have been nicer. The wine tour with Javier was fantastic. (The "Malbec Effect" kicked in around lunch time.) We could not have been happier with our stay.

Personal service and accomodating guests is alive and well at Plaza Italia...My wife and I stayed 3 nights at Plaza Italia in the recently built ground floor suite. Nice accomodations. Mind you, this is a B&B in a nice home, not a 400-room international hotel so guests should not expect opulent sized rooms. Javier, called me in the states 3 weeks prior to our arrival to ask me about our preferences for setting up a 2 day wine tour. When was the last time the host called you as a courtesy to help plan your trip? His connections in the area and level of personal service helped to make this a very special tour for my wife and I. Javier drove and took us to about about 10 wineries in 2 days. Never would have found many of them without him. The tours were with just my wife, the winery rep and Javier. Amazing education. No large groups trapsing through the winery. Loved every minute of it. We wish Plaza Italia continued success as they know how to treat guests as new found friends.
