We were in Mendoza to visit our daughter who was doing a study abroad program. The hotel was recommended to us by her "host mom". We were very happy with the hotel. It is across the street from Plaza Chile. Our room was on the second floor and faced the square. The suite had a king-size bed, sitting area, dining table and kitchenette. Because we stayed for 6 nights, it was really nice to have some room to spread out. The room was kept clean enough. Although, as another reviewer mentioned, it didn't look like they vacuumed every day, maybe every other. The water pressure in the shower was good, and we didn't have any problem having enough hot water. I find it odd that they did not provide wash clothes with the other towels in the bathroom. We also found that to be the case in the hotel we stayed at in Buenos Aires. Must be an Argentine thing. The mattress was comfortable. However, they had enormous, sausage-shaped pillows on the bed. They might look nice for a picture but they were terrible for sleeping. After the second night I asked at the desk for a smaller pillow. They were able to provide one, so sleeping was very easy for the remainder of the stay. They serve a complimentary breakfast in a very spacious dining room. Yes, it is the typical Argentine breakfast of toast, cheese, ham, medialunas and coffee. They also supplemented with fresh fruit, yogurt, a couple kinds of cereal and usually 2-3 other types of pastries. Having the fruit and yogurt was enough to make me and my husband satisified with the breakfast. Their coffee was excellent. The location of the hotel is great. The immediate area around the hotel I found to be pretty quiet, but you are only 3-4 blocks from a Carrefours (grocery store) and many restaurants. Plus it is only a few blocks from Plaza Independcia and a 10-15 min walk to the other plazas. Because we had our daughter to guide us, we didn't make much use of the desk staff, but they were very helpful on the few occasions that we needed some assistance. Overall I give this hotel an enthusiastic "thumbs up!".

We only stayed overnight in Mendoza and chose this hotel because of the low price. We had a 1 bedroom room with a kitchen and full bathroom (with bidet) and we were very happy with it. Yes the room was dated, but the price was so cheap that there was really nothing to complain about. When I couldn't get the hot water to work in the bathroom, the front desk sent maintenance up almost immediately as we hung up the phone! Great service.

There is a standard buffet breakfast and fresh fruit at the reception.

This hotel is great value: we stayed in a suite with a comfortable sitting room, plenty of wardrobe space and a kitchenette. The location is excellent, right by the Plaza Chile, a very short walk from a variety of good restaurants. The staff were very helpful with bookings. The only drawback was that the bath and shower water wasn't very warm.

We stayed there because you refered and we really appreciated.
The employees are very professional and they help us a lot when we had questions to ask.
Having a restaurant and a terrace part of the hotel would make it better, but it's not the end of the world.
The room was ok. Just perfect for us since we used it only for sleeping.
The hotel is just in front of a nice park.
In resume, the next time I'll come in Mendoza, Portal Suites will be our priority.

Thanks again for all the help.

Marc & Paul

We were lucky because our room was located on the 2th floor and it had a very big balcony with a view at Chili square. We found it the most beautifull and quiet square of them all. Just a few blocks away from nice restaurants and the shopping area. We arrived on Friday early in the morning and we could go to our room immediately, what was a great service. Only the room wasn't clean, it was very big but a little bit old fasioned. The kitchen was fully equipted, but without a corkscrew (!). That's the one thing you need in Mendoza, right? The bed was very small for two grown-ups. At saturday the shops and travelagencies close at 1 PM and at sunday everything is closed. There's not so many sightseeing in town, because of the earthquake in the 19th centrury. But Mendoza is very relaxing and the climate in November was very nice: warm but very dry. Luckely we could make booking on sunday for two excursions at the Monkey hostel. Wich has very nice personal. We're from Holland, and they had a employee who came from Belgium so we could make the reservation in our own native language. About the hotel, the breakfast is poor, but the restaurant serves very big fresh orange juices and delicious Milanesa. The cleaning of the room was not that good, they didn't use a vacuum cleaner... But the service at the front desk is very professional, and they are willing to do anything for you. It's an average hotel, but at a good location (there's a Carrefour right around the corner). If you'll visit the Florencia Restaurant, order the Castillos de Cerdo (spareribs), you will not be dissapointed: heavenly ribs.
