“Winetasting in the sky - awesome”

sky dive mendoza Argentina
Reviewed July 4, 2013

My first sky dive had a wine tasting in the sky option. It was such an awesome idea as it made me less panicked about gliding down to earth (as I have a small fear of heights). It was an amazing experience.

i stayed at the Empedrado Hostel and went skydiving and paragliding with Eduardo and his team. I apologize to the folks who are reading this for the fact that I can't give an address, but to anyone doing this adventure, Eduardo is the best. A pilot, a long time skydiver, someone with many many hours in the air himself, this man knows the business inside and out. He's trained all his own people and he was an excellent instructor.

As a skydiver myself I know what good skills look like and I appreciate air competence. Eduardo rewarded my second flight with him with a very long ride and some real height and I paid extra for his courtesy. It was well worth it. For anyone who has never done this before, you are in excellent, calm hands. Eduardo is also your photographer and videographer, and yo are guaranteed good stories via digital camera to show to your friends.

Most people don't take on jumping full time, so a tandem jump is usually all they will do. It's done well, with care and much attention to safety. For those unfamiliar with the sport, being around the club house where the jumpers are packing up or practicing their "points" on the ground prior to their dive is highly entertaining. It might prove intriguing enough to get fully involved later so watch out!

Eduardo's English is serviceable enough, so brush up on your Spanish. Once I showed him a shot of myself in a four way star from back home we understood each other, and he understood my passion for the air. I appreciated that he recognized how much I loved air sports, and he was patient with my many questions about how gear had changed in the years since I was active.

His instructors are well trained, customer focused, careful but also enthusiastic. The DVD I ended up with was great fun, had wonderful music, and in fact was a two camera shoot from the skydive.

The most important advice I can offer is to trust your instructor and by all means, do these adventures. You're missing out if you don't. Not only are the views magnificent when you're riding the thermals, but that time in the air may change your understanding of flight. Definitely spend the bucks and let Eduardo and his crew take you up up and up, and show you the joys of flying over Mendoza!

By the way, for those of you who are wondering- if you want to wait til you get back to the States? Don't. A tandem paraglide stateside in Colorado, for example, is about $400 plus transport and all the rest, compared to the $60 or so you'll spend with Eduardo, who comes to pick you up. He's as good as anyone you'll work with stateside or better. My vote is do it in Mendoza.
