I do not go around looking to criticise restaurants ... however this evening I have every cause to complain about Sr Buque in Mendoza.
I had already had a substantial lunch and was looking for a simple light meal in the evening. This restaurant was offering ensalada caprese for 45 pesos. This seemed just what I wanted... something light and refreshing ... large fresh slices of tomato and soft buffalo mozzarella would hit the spot.
So I ordered just that. This is what happened...
After a long time a plate appeared with what looked like one tired large tomato cut into wedges with a few pieces of hard cheese scattered amongst it. After an even longer time the salad dressings appeared at which point I complained that this was the most miserable caprese salad I had ever seen.
The plate was whisked away with the waiter offering to replace it. Time passed by and virtually the same plate reappeared ...this time being more or less dumped on my table by a different waiter.
I chose (perhaps wrongly) to eat the salad ...and when asking for the bill expressed amazement that the price of a 20 ounce sirloin steak was only twice the price of this miserable salad. This is even more astonishing given the very high quality of fruit and vegetables in Mendoza province.
The waiter was unable to do anything to appease my dissatisfaction other than to offer something special "next time".
Well there will be no next time . Not ever and I would not urge anyone else to go there either.
Hopefully genuine issues recorded on-line such as this will limit the excesses of restaurants who have no regard for passing tourists.
