First, I must apologize to the proprietors for my tardiness in writing this review. Time flies! That being said - our group of 4 (from Canada) took a 2-day, 1-night excursion into the Andes with South Trekking Travel, and it was certainly the highlight of our 11-day trip to South America. From start to finish, it was an intimate and unique experience. Our Spanish-speaking guides (and ranch owners) were extremely personable and enhanced our ride immensely. And in particular, our English-speaking guide, Pablo, was simply a joy to be around, and to get to know. We really felt like we were out in the mountains with legitimate gauchos (because - we were!!). Amazing to see their horses and cattle free-range as we traveled. They did a great job preparing us as far as what to bring and what to expect, as well as matching out riding skill-level with our individual mounts. Everyone was free to ride as they wished, within reason of course, which made it much more fun for those of us with horse experience. The views were just completely unparalleled, and I loved that our campsite was not planned, but just based on where we could find water towards the end of the day (so authentic!!). On that note - one tip I will divulge would be to ensure you bring enough water with you if you're riding in the summer!! Amazing food was provided, and we all hung out and ate and drank around the campfire at night - we left the trip feeling incredibly happy that we'd made such great new friends.
If you have any inclination to ride horseback in the Andes, these lovely people are the ones to do it with! I would say it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but I really hope to return one day (soon!) for a longer excursion.
