Found on Craigslist and made reservations (from Buenos Aires) by email with quick, friendly responses (in English and Spanish). Credit card was required for reservation, but paid in cash. Walking distance from bus terminal (we took cab), and much closer to "Heart of Mendoza." We were exhausted after bus trip/big lunch so ordered pizza for dinner (number supplied by friendly staff member) and watched cable, but the kitchen was fully equipped for cooking. Headed out next day, and staff happily "checked" baggage for us until our afternoon bus. Very nice indeed!

Art lovers will feel right at home in Modigliani Art & Design Suites, located in Mendoza, the capital of Argentina’s wine region. It is an urban oasis in the heart of Mendoza’s city center.
Martin Mendel, founder, manager, architect and Chilean transplant, designed each suite with his personal sense of style while not sacrificing functionality.
The suites, each one unique, have modern electronics, funky furniture, are well-groomed, boast decorative details like antiques picked up from the city’s weekly antique fair, and focus on mood lighting. Depending on your choice of accommodation, certain suites will offer a few more luxuries, but all of them are equally comfortable and smartly designed.

I stayed at Modigliani for a month, sort of accidentally. I was meant to be in Santiago, but a trip to Mendoza for the weekend convinced me that I did not want to leave there until the last possible moment, and I had the good fortune to find Modigliani on-line. It is a beautiful building and is perfectly located for walking to the five plazas in the center of town, as well as to restaurants, shopping, and the Spanish language school. I spoke no Spanish when I arrived, and the owner and his assistants could not have been more helpful. A lot of time travel in a country where you don't speak the language is very hard, but having such a great place to stay, in such a convenient location, with the wonderful staff made it a lot easier. I'm going back this fall.

I stayed here for a month while taking a wine tasting class and getting to know the Mendoza region. Excellent for long or short term stays. The owner, Martin, is extremely helpful and speaks perfect English.
This place is geared towards the traveler who would prefer to do without the amenities of a typical hotel (i.e. telephone in room, continental breakfast, room service, etc), although if you need something that is not in your room, just ask the staff and they will find a way to accommodate your request.
The rooms are full of natural light and are decked out with modern furniture and artwork from local artists. All rooms have kitchen and refrigerator. Most have balcony or small patio.
The location is great. 3 min walk to pedestrian strip which leads to the central plaza in another 5-10 min stroll.
When I arrived to Mendoza, I spent a few hours walking around checking out rooms I'd found on the internet to rent for my month stay (all in the same price range as this place). As soon as I was greeted by Martin and saw this place, I was certain this was the place to stay.

This perfectly designed place, coupled with the charm of Mendoza, has turned a short visit planned for only 3 days into a 2 month stay.
It offers a nice relief and contrast to so many of non-descript hotel rooms or apartment hotels in South America. All apartments in the building are very nicely done, fully equipped with everything you might need to feel yourself at home including microwave, pots and pans, stereo, DVD and even beautifully kept plants, etc. The flats are furnished with an architect’s eye for every detail.
Beyond the stylish outfit a small, family-like group of personnel will stand you by to feel yourself like a part of them.
Ideal place for all travellers looking for a bit of respite after so many hotel rooms or for longer stays if you want a homey and comfortable place for your holidays/vocation.
