Having spent numerous weeks at the hostel I feel comfortable recommending this ínstitution´to all who like a nice blend of fiestas, comfort and hospitable living.

The staff are always keen to talk and catch up over a mate or cerveza.
I found the rooms clean and adequately kept and contrary to other reviews the beds were comfortable enough.

This hostel, whilst not as large as some of the other chain Hostels has a great party scene. In the summer people congregated in the courtyard and shared many stories, beers and orange infused wiskies. Im an especially big fan of the mexican fiestas which can happen at any stage during a summers day.

Ive kept in contact through email with many of the staff and fellow travellers i met at this place and we have remenisced on good memories attributed to it.

Overall its a nice place to stay with a great location next to the central park. Its also a good launch pad to the mountains above Porterillos and the Aconcagua.

Stayed here for one night and that was enough. This is the first hostel/hotel that I've ever left early. Based on reviews in Lonely Planet and Eye Witness it seemed like a great budget option. Those reviews must have been written some time ago because the place did not resemble the description even remotely. An awful experience, even going in with modest expectations.

Our private room had a pair of dirty boxer shorts under the bed alongside an open can of beer. There was dirt all over the floor and hair on the pillows. We had to ask the attendant if the sheets had been washed, because they appeared to be just thrown on the bed. The "wine bar" was out of wine (in wine country) and was covered in dirty bowls of some kind of stew someone had made. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable and the mattress loud every time we moved. Walls were paper thin so you were kept up by other people entering all night. Even by cheap hostel standards, this one was pretty bad.

Checking out early the guy was really nice, refunded us one night. When I said I needed to check out earlier the first thing he asked was "was it the hostel?" I was honest and told him it was, he was sympathetic and recommended another place. Get the sense that this type of thing might not be uncommon.

We stayed here only one night because there was just a lack of concern for the entire place. The front desk staff was very nice, and the common space has music (not saying it is good though) all day and sells beer & wine. You will get a towel but the beds only have one sheet (no top sheet, no pilllow case) so you may be cold if you are not here in summer. Breakfast was minimal-a bread roll with dulce de leche (caramel type sauce) and a bowl of plain corn flakes cereal with lukewarm tea or instant coffee (no microwave, but you could take the time to heat water on the stovetop if you ask the staff to start the stovetop for you).
We were in a 3-bed room and it was extremely hard for us all to be in there at once without being in each other's way. It was downstairs so we heard all of the noise until people went to bed, and were awoken early in the morning by the early risers. We paid US$15 each, or $180 AR pesos total.
The communal bathrooms are lacking-shower curtains are ripped to shreds, some showerheads are missing, and the only 2 toilets, both of which are impossible to squat over (girls) because the door is so close to the toilet so you have to sit, and when you sit, the lid of the toilet comes forward and hits you on the back. Gross. The males' bathroom, my husband told me, was partially flooded when he tried to take a shower in the morning.
The kitchen is rather large so is good for making your own food, but the fridge was absolutely packed and we could hardly fit our food in there, even though we only saw about 7 other guests there. They do have good notebooks about things to do in the area. And there is good wifi. There is 1 computer for communal use. However, the whole place just needs a little more love and concern. Instead of smoking or sitting in front of the computer while there is nothing to do, I think the staff should sweep for 3 minutes, or tidy up the kitchen for 3 minutes, or add a fresh coat of paint so that it looks like someone cares about this place. The location is awesome, directly across from Plaza Independencia where there is a great crafts market Thurs-Sunday nights.

Room Tip: Choose a room upstairs so you are away from the noise.

This was the worst accomodation during our Chile-Argentina-trip:
We booked a room 3 days in advance (in person!), unfortunately, the booking didn't exist when we arrived. There was a more expensive room available instead which didn't have a fan, but the receptionist promised to provide us with a fan in the evening (it was a very hot day). In the evening, there wasn't any fan available and it was impossible to sleep in this small, very hot triple room (the mosquito net was broken, the toilet not cleaned, the beds were more than used-look). We moved to a dorm, but didn't get our money back! They promised to come back to us by e-mail, as the manager wasn't in, but didn't. Internet didn't work properly and the service was poor, except the guy on duty the next morning (apparently they weren't able to make a call for us to Buenos Aires to confirm our accomodation and we had to look for a internet café instead at 9.00 pm). Forget the breakfast!

Read the reviews and it sounded fine, checked into the hostel at 11.30a.m. for 7 nights and checked out again by noon.
We booked private double ensuite room and presumed this included a shower. Room had a tiny ensuite toilet and a shower than was no longer in operation. The room itself was cramped and filthy, pillows were stained, the blanket on the bed was covered in animal hair, the toilet door would not close and the main door would not close without being locked. The staff were very polite, location is great and the common area looks fine but the room was a mess. There are no showers in the rooms and to shower, you have to go down a flight of stairs and pass through the communal kitchen.
There were no sheets on the bed, rubbish was left in the bed side lockers and there was no toilet paper. Booked into the Montañas Azules nearby, not a world of difference in the price but a really nice, modern apart-hotel.

We loved our stay here in Mendoza! It honestly is one of the best backpackers I have ever stayed in!! Coolest old rustic building with great heating in winter and comfortable. We were here for 3 nights and it was very centrally located in the town centre.
The staff were super friendly and helpful and it had a great vibe!
We relaxed by the cable TV and had efficient free Wi Fi for our laptop.
Totally recommend staying here in Mendoza.
We stayed in the Mendoza hotel for 1 night down the road, and preferred our stay here in the hostel.
Simple, Clean, excellent price for a double room. Share showers were excellent, kitchen great, hard mattress, but slept well!
This is where we will stay every time we travel to Mendoza!
