Hostel Alamo, like most reviews on tripadvisor and hostelworld seem to confirm, is a beautiful, friendly and well designed hostel. The receptionists are incredibly friendly and helpful (especially Max), the location is perfect (a 5 minute walk to plaza independencia), the dorm rooms are spacious and very clean (my room had a big balcony looking out over the backyard), the kitchen well equip, and there are a number of lovely communal areas including a tv room, dining area and backyard complete with bbq and small pool. I stayed for 4 nights and arranged a few wine tours through the hostel which was very hassle free and enjoyable. The vibe of the hostel is great as there are areas to relax, play guitar, dip your legs in the pool (it's not big enough for much else!) or watch a movie, as well as areas to drink wine and meet other people. While they don't offer free wine, asados or a massive pool like some other places, I don't think you could beat the price, location, vibe and design of this beautiful place. I was very happy with my decision and would definitely stay here on any return visits to Mendoza.

Room Tip: Ask for the 8 bed dorm with the balcony! It's very spacious and is much cooler at night if you l...

Very good hostel with lovely spacious rooms. We stayed in two different rooms, and both were very comfortable. Max was very organised and very helpful. Hostel well located. The hostel had a lovely feel to it, with nice areas to relax in, both outside and inside.

Room Tip: garden rooms can be a bit noisy, as people sit outside and don't seem to respect the after hours...

I stayed at Hostel Alamo when I was between buses from Buenos Aires to Santiago. I was not feeling well and did not want to do much. It was a great place to relax and recover. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. There is a nice pool and backyard patio. It is very clean and comfortable with decent prices.

We found this hostel through tripadvisor so its only fair we leave a review to support it. The staff are so friendly and accommodating. The internet wasn't working well when we first arrived and by the next day, Fernando, the owner had 3 other networks available to use! Rooms are cleaned and beds made everyday. The upstairs dorm rooms can get very hot and the ceiling fans don't do much, but I've heard since then they've bought industrial fans to help reduce this. The courtyard is nice and green, complete with a little dip pool and parilla. The common areas have air conditioning which is great for the extremely hot days in Mendoza. We also stayed in an apartment owned by the hostel which is right off Plaza Independencia and we were able to negotiate a discount for staying for a fortnight (even in high season). Small but sufficient, aircon, internet, kitchen, hot water, and cable TV. I would definitely stay with Hostel Alamo again.

Really liked this hostel. Not too fancy, small but nice 2-3 person wading pool in the back lounge/patio area. Really nice staff. Helped me get to the wineries by collectivo, saving me quite a buck, and brought up the exact route so I knew where to go, and what bus to catch. Max, Agus, and Matias, I believe, great folks all. Daily cleaning of rooms, making of the beds. Wasn't looking for a party hostel and this was perfect. Someone always grilling on their great Parilla, (it is argentina afterall). Good atmosphere, people coming from wineries, so always decent vino around. Just off one of the main streets and right near a market so getting food, supplies, or heading to the parque San Martin was quite easy. I extended my stay 1 or 2 days, as I had time to kill. Very good hostal. Shower heads need replacing, and dorms of 8 people can be a drag, but I still had to give 5 stars.

Room Tip: Choose a top bunk cuz it can get hot in the rooms and you'll be closer to the fan's breeze.

Basic private room in a hostel. Reasonable size but a bit dark and smelt slightly of drains. Bed uncomfortable with very poorly fitting sheet. Breakfast very basic. Staff helpful but always seemed too busy to really ask questions. That said at $30 USD a night it was good value.
