“Impressive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013

This restaurant is located a little far from the center city. We grab a cab imagining that it would be easy to get there, because this is the best restaurant of Mendoza.
It took us 30 minutes instead of 15 expected.
But it worth the "trip". The place is beautiful, the waitress was lovely and the food devine.
We went for lunch, so it was very calm, but for dinner you must reserve.

“Great Dinner in Mendoza”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2013

This being our last meal after 3 days in Mendoza, two of which were filled with Bodega visits and large meals to end each day, we were hesitant to go but highly told to attend.

The garden outside was beautiful in the Courtyard, but no tables were there as it was a bit too chilly out 60F. We eat in the pretty 2 top in the large dining room. A glass window exposes the kitchen for those liking to see in at whats going on from a far which was nice, and the room has a center island for waiters to keep wines and organize the service for the guests.

Now, the waiters in the place are about as close to hipsters from USA at some of LA, San Fran, NYC type restaurants that are more progressive in there dress but put together and fashionable. The servers I think know they are getting higher end guests are at slightly snobby with there attitude FYI.

The bread here is great and they keep it coming in all varieties, shapes and sizes as well as Olive Oil (which you may need to ask for). We had a grilled goat cheese with vegtables to start and may Gf had the Gnoochi with tomatoes(really good and pillowly) to my 7.5 hour roasted lamb dish (only okay). The Gnoochi was delish and very tasty, surrounded by a tomato sauce and quite a bit of cheese but tasty. The app with the Goat Cheese was quite good as well. The Lamb was tender but not very tasty, no sauce to accompany, and the mashed potatoes with spinach or some kind of green inside was just plain and blah. The wine list was pretty extensive and they cover 100 peso wines up to a couple thousand pesos, so quite good amount of choices.

After being told the meat off the Asado are some of the best around, I should have opted for a steak but we were so full of beef, we decided to veer away and I wish I would have had one.

I would recommend checking out the Asado outside where the magic happens, hang out in the garden as well to enjoy it, and walk down the spiral staircase near the bar to see the very well filled wine cellar.

“A must visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2013 via mobile

Had dinner there 2 nights ago on a business trip. Everything was cooked perfectly , flavors were excellent. The building itself is amazing. Bure sure to sit out on the back patio if you can( dinner or cocktails) .

“Food was good, but location was better”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2013

We went to 1884 trying to have a romantic dinner and to try a good Argentinean meal, and we can say mission accomplished on both terms. The restaurant is in winery in the middle of the city (we had a bit of trouble finding it as there is no sign or street number, we walked there from downtown Mendoza). If you can, call ahead and request a table in the patio. Weather providing it is a beautiful patio. Food-wise, the menu was fairly standard fare for Argentina albeit with great quality and presentation. My dish was the Bife de Lomo with Patagonian Potatoes. The beef was a huge chunk and came topped with a house-made chimichurri sauce that was pretty heavy on the parsley. Unlike the more traditional kind of chimi. The potatoes may have been a nice thought but when it came down to eat them it was very difficult without the use of hands. Not the kind of restaurant where you want to use your hands. The empanadas we had for appetizers were truly great. My wife ordered chivito (braised goat) and she found it excellent. For desert we had flan with dulce de leche. Good, but nothing extraordinary. At the end of the dinner, the sommelier surprised us with the news that they made a mistake and gave us a bottle of wine that was twice as expensive than the one we ordered, and let us keep the tag.

“Superb! A must in Mendoza!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

Prior to our visit I really did not know of Mallman at all! My loss!
My wife whom is Argentine knew of him and based on her knowledge booked a reservation during a surprise wine trip to Mendoza from BA.
We dined Al fresco and even though very busy our experience was terrific! Starting with a very well stocked bar and attentive bar service! Moving outside for dinner, the service was even better, being in Argentina we both ordered empanadas appetizer and beef entree's, sounds simple and while it was a simple order and perfectly executed, the panache of the preparation and presentation was hard to miss.....an obviously superb wine list made the choices more difficult.....it's a good thing!
Dessert was also excellent! No substitute for his wood fired cooking!
I recommend using a remise to get there, parking is weird and unless you live in the area, it's a bit difficult to find! I highly recommend Mallman 1884 the menu is seasonal and creative, the service is first class and portions are sizable but most importantly, well prepared. Don't pass up the opportunity to enjoy this gem
