While a visit to Tigre provides a decent respite from the City of Buenos Aires, the delta itself was unremarkable. Similar to deltas and bayous elsewhere but with more development, this area is primarily a vacation destination for Argentines. The area is somewhat unique in that many of the islands are accessible by boat. Consequently the rivers are plied by "mercantile boats" that stock everything from water to propane gas. If you have time, and want to see a different side of the Buenos Aires area, give this a try. Just keep in mind that there are many, many tour boats and lots of tourists. I took the shorter tour. The longer tour uses larger boats that appeared to be air conditioned. The longer tour may be more worthwhile as I believe it includes more time on the main river.
