“A taste of the Bavarian Alps along the Tigre Delta”
Reviewed May 11, 2011

Taking the public water taxi from Tigre brought us to another world nestled amongst the marshes of the delta. A 5 minute walk (longer if you stop for photos and to take in the tranquil surroundings) brought us to a series of Bavarian style homes and a restaurant. We ate on the quiet backyard deck overlooking a narrow waterway. Large portions of typical German fare prepared to perfection with an attentive and friendly staff that included 2 Daschunds. Take the public water taxi to Rama Negra - about 45 minutes each way.

“Civilized oasis in the Delta”
Reviewed March 23, 2011

I spent about 4 days here, eating breakfast and/or lunch each day as I worked remotely via internet because it was the only place around with WiFi. Service was OK, similar to that I've experienced traveling in Germany. Authentic Austrian "Gasthaus:" a real oasis of in the middle of the river delta run by Austrians. Really liked the spaetzle, strudel with icecream, German beer-on-tap, spacious, clean, private restrooms. Wish I could have paid to use the pool, but it is restricted to hotel guests only.

“Best possible day in the Parana Delta is at Alpenhaus”
Reviewed November 1, 2010

The day began by taking the bus boat from the Estacion Fluvial in Tigre (just outside Buenos Aires) for a 1-hour trip to a dock near the hotel/restaurant. A very enjoyable 400 meter walk along the river takes you to Alpenhaus. Food is excellent, and there are many choices for parties with mixed preferences. Personable service by the owner and family members is the best you can imagine. The river front here is only 20 meters wide, so there is very little commercial traffic, diesel smells and diesel sounds to disrupt the tranquility of the delta. At 5:00 PM, the bus boat picks you up right from their dock for the trip back to Tigre. Forget the tourist boats, forget the places along the main river channels.. this is simply the best way to experience the delta.

“Wine on the Waterfront”
Reviewed November 11, 2009

We were kicked off the bus boat at this restaurant in Rama Negra having taken the bus boat for a day out. We were greeted by Suzanne the owner of the restaurant who spoke good English and were seated on the jetty come waterfront restaurant. Our waiter Mina served us a fine glass of wine and explained where we could and could not go walking. We followed her advice and had a gentle stroll for an hour before returning for a plate of mixed meat and cheese and an excellent dessert of raspberries and ice-cream. The day was a bit gloomy and stormy and as the weather looked threatening we were transferred indoors to what was an Alpine dining area - a bit surreal in the river delta but a welcome warm and cosy setting for a rainy Sunday afternoon.

The staff were attentive and told us their family history of travelling to Argentina from Austria in the early 1950s. A great story for a wet day.
