Rooney's Boutique Hotel
Ranked #188 of 444 Hotels in Buenos Aires
Reviewed April 12, 2011

I am not a fan of chain hotels and always (when on vacation) look for a hotel that has a character of its own. Rooney's is full of character - charming & comfortable and at the same time clean and efficient. Pretentious it is not.
The free airport pickup was great given that we had not been to Argentina before. The staff are english speaking, helpful and professional. The rooms are comfortable (not massive) and the beds a delight to sleep on. Breakfast is fresh and varied from fresh fruits to eggs cooked to your liking. The location, downtown , is ideal to explore - we like to walk and were able to walk to most points of interest.
We had a very pleasant stay and would whole heartidly recommend Rooney's.

Room Tip: make sure to take the free tango class - great fun

Rooney's Boutique Hotel lays in the center of Buenos Aires. It's in a short distance of everything. Even two subway lines are in two blocks away from the hotel.
We booked a superior room, but we got a bit disappointed about the room. It was too small. The beds were the best we every slept in in Argentina, but the bathroom was too small. Breakfast was normal and not special, but the staff is very nice and helpfull.
The hotel is on the 3rd floor of an old Buenos Aires house, so it feels like you are going back to the early 20th century.

We stayed for two nights. Staff was extremely helpful and breakfast was excellent. We took a complimentary tango lesson in the hotel lobby which was a lot of fun. There were only four or five of us in the lesson so we got plenty of individual attention. Hotel is on the 3rd floor and we asked for an interior room so it was totally quiet at night. The room was comfortable but a little cramped because of big furniture.

The location is good, within walking distance of many of the main sights as well as cafes, bars and shops. The interior is tasteful, clean with all furniture and fittings in keeping with the period of the building. The breakfasts are very good with a choice of cooked and cold dishes - sets you up well for a day in the city. My room was very comfortable with everything one needed to relax. The place has a homely atmosphere.

Without exception the staff are excellent and a real help to the visitor. The excursions planned by the hotel are all good - go for them! I had the 6 day package - you can go on days of your choice which is a useful point.

Turn left out the hotel and you will come to the Chiquillon restaurant (very good) and a little further on there are some steps in to an area of cafes and restaurants off the street in courtyards - plenty of good places for a snack or a beer!

Don't be put off by the ground floor entrance of this hotel. Once in the hotel the caring staff will cater for all of your needs. Both Vanessa and Nico couldnt be more helpful with suggestions for trips and restaurants. Hotel is comfortable and the breakfast is good. The company they use for tours is excellent too, especially Geraldo the tour guide.

We spent five nights at the hotel and I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

It is located on the third floor of a "period" building on an avenue which is approximately a 20-minute from the city centre. However, the location of the hotel would not be described as salubrious.

We booked a superior room. Our room overlooked the avenue which was very busy and, therefore, very noisy despite the double-glazing. Sleeping was somewhat of a challenge. I would recommend asking for a room which is not street-facing.
The room had air-conditioning which was very welcome given the ambient temperature and humidity during our stay and an en-suite shower/ toilet.

Breakfast was excellent with fresh fruit, cereal, coffee, tea, pastries and which included a freshly-cooked dish such as an omlette.

The owner, Ciaran, and all of the staff were wonderful, gracious and extremely helpful. In particular, they provided an excellent service in terms of reservations for restaurants and transportation. This contributed enormously to our enjoyment whilst in Buenos Aires.

Free Wi-Fi is available as is a laptop in the lounge for guest use.

Taxis are very cheap and a great way to get around. However, only use taxis which carry the logo "radio taxi" - the livery is black & yellow.
