“Not what you pay for”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

We booked this guesthouse for a 24 hour stopover in BA & after emails between agustin & nicolas were really looking forward to our stay, with Agustin even offering day use at 1/2 price due to a late flight out.

The main issue I had was that we had booked the ensuite room but on arrival were told we had a private bathroom not attached to our room? This private bathroom was right next to the common lounge, & at one point another guest tried coming in while i was in there. I have no issues with a share bathroom if that is what I paid for, but if I ask for ensuite that is what i expect. I checked the map of the apartment & there was an ensuite room but this was already taken.

The shower in our non ensuite bathroom was broken - the shower head was more like a hose with just 1 huge stream of water pouring out & there was some weird material or something stuffed up in the shower head obviously where they had tried to fix the problem.

We'd already paid a deposit of $60 before arrival, & were due to pay the balance at checkout. Due to the mix up/mess up in our room, i checked on the website & the price for the double room, shared bathroom was $10 less so i told David that we only wanted to pay for the room we were supplied. He called Nicolas & said despite the prices clearly being on the website & also noted in emails, the price had changed? I disputed this, and david then said it was because I had changed dates - yes our date had changed by 1 day but then if the ensuite wasn't available this should have been noted, & the price adjusted. In the end they agreed to reduce the price by $5 only.

It wasn't the money, it was that they hadn't provided what I had booked, & then made me fight to only pay the correct price.

We have spend here more than a week and love this place for its charming and relaxing atmosphere, the gentle and very helpfull staff. As well we appreciate the kitchen and the community room. We come back here on our next trip to Buenos Aires.

Stayed for 2 nights and it certainly didn't feel like a 4 star hotel. The room was basic and clean, but nothing else that would justify 4 stars. Breakfast was basic too. However the main issue was the poor quality of the free WiFi throughout the hotel. I can only assume the paid WiFi was marginally better, but a 4 star hotel should offer decent free WiFi as a standard. The location is great for tourists.

This b & b as they call it; which is really a hostel, is fine. It's nothing flash but is cheap. Breakfast is far too late, starting at 9.30am. The bedroom we stayed in was freezing, but not as noisy as other places we have stayed. The best thing about it is certainly the location!! It's in a great spot in a great area!

This bed and breakfast is a good base, nothing flash but perfectly adequate for its price. Our host, Agustin, was extremely helpful and provided us with map and advice, and also exchanged money. We loved staying in San Telmo where there were many restaurants nearby and lots of character in the buildings and cobblestone streets. We stayed in the largest bedroom, which didn't have an ensuite, but the other bedrooms were much smaller.

Good location - close to Subway, buses, and a lot of restaurants and cafes, huge Sunday market place, pleasant environment - people dancing in the streets, small shops, family-owned stores selling everything you need, walking distance from the center of Buenos Aires.
Very clean - bathrooms and common areas are cleaned daily and thoroughly. Good size rooms with high ceilings. Air conditioners/heaters controlled from the room, cozy breakfast room and kitchen area with big table for everybody.
Delicious breakfast - fresh croissants and bread with delicious butter, lecho and jam, hot coffee and tea.
Very friendly and helpful staff - on the first morning Nicolas (the hostel manager) provided us with information about attractions, places to visit and directions. He and his staff were always around when we needed to call a taxi and helped us to book a tour and a show. It so happened that we lost all our cash and credit cards on the second day of walking about the city. With our non-existant Spanish we found ourselves in a very tough situation. Nicolas was extremely helpful. He went far beyond his duties in assisting us. He spent hours of his personal time to help us with multiple phone calls, lent us money so we could survive for a couple of days until the card replacements arrived, translated for us in the Western Union office and on the phone, walked with us everywhere and even delayed his personal appointments. So after all the troubles we went through, we were left with warm feelings about Buenos Aires. We can never thank Nicolas enough for all his help.

Room Tip: Rooms are quiet with balcony door closed. If you choose the room with private bathroom be aware tha...

Luxurious this is not....

Our room (the main picture) was ok at best. Noise travelled, the ensuite had a window into the hall/entrance - privacy issues!

The kitchen was fine when we stayed there and the staff were very friendly and helpful in providing information and booking us a taxi to the airport.

It isn't a luxurious stay, rather its a hostel in a safe part of town, walking distance from everything (even La Boca was only 20 mins walk). Pillows were hard and lumpy, sheets were old and light came in thrown a small window to the hall way. This is very basic accomodation but its Buenos Aires so quality costs a lot of money.

If you want 4 star accomodation then this is not for you. If like us, you are a young couple who want a safe place, in a good location then this is doable.
