Good location - close to Subway, buses, and a lot of restaurants and cafes, huge Sunday market place, pleasant environment - people dancing in the streets, small shops, family-owned stores selling everything you need, walking distance from the center of Buenos Aires.
Very clean - bathrooms and common areas are cleaned daily and thoroughly. Good size rooms with high ceilings. Air conditioners/heaters controlled from the room, cozy breakfast room and kitchen area with big table for everybody.
Delicious breakfast - fresh croissants and bread with delicious butter, lecho and jam, hot coffee and tea.
Very friendly and helpful staff - on the first morning Nicolas (the hostel manager) provided us with information about attractions, places to visit and directions. He and his staff were always around when we needed to call a taxi and helped us to book a tour and a show. It so happened that we lost all our cash and credit cards on the second day of walking about the city. With our non-existant Spanish we found ourselves in a very tough situation. Nicolas was extremely helpful. He went far beyond his duties in assisting us. He spent hours of his personal time to help us with multiple phone calls, lent us money so we could survive for a couple of days until the card replacements arrived, translated for us in the Western Union office and on the phone, walked with us everywhere and even delayed his personal appointments. So after all the troubles we went through, we were left with warm feelings about Buenos Aires. We can never thank Nicolas enough for all his help.

Room Tip: Rooms are quiet with balcony door closed. If you choose the room with private bathroom be aware that the access to the bathroom is not from inside the room.

Luxurious this is not....

Our room (the main picture) was ok at best. Noise travelled, the ensuite had a window into the hall/entrance - privacy issues!

The kitchen was fine when we stayed there and the staff were very friendly and helpful in providing information and booking us a taxi to the airport.

It isn't a luxurious stay, rather its a hostel in a safe part of town, walking distance from everything (even La Boca was only 20 mins walk). Pillows were hard and lumpy, sheets were old and light came in thrown a small window to the hall way. This is very basic accomodation but its Buenos Aires so quality costs a lot of money.

If you want 4 star accomodation then this is not for you. If like us, you are a young couple who want a safe place, in a good location then this is doable.

We were excited to be staying in the advertised luxurious apartment in the San Telmo district of Buenos Aires. This is part of the Republica San Telmo hostel, but not the hostel itself. Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations:
- the kitchenette cooker didn't work as it kept blowing the fuses so we were unable to use it.
- the kitchen itself was poorly equipped, with no bowls, chopping board or sharp knife
- the apartment was located on the busiest highway known to man and outside of the San Telmo area
- the hot tub didn't work and the pool looked dirty
- although the apartment is a new build the finish is quite substandard
- the service provided by the two owners was pretty poor (although they did offer a discount following the broken cooker)

Despite the above it was an ok stay and it was nice to have our own space and enjoy quite a powerful hot shower. One of the owners did speak good English and advised us on how to get around the city.

Great location just a few blocks away from the best spots in San Telmo. Room was just OK, the service was pretty good. Breakfast is terrible though.

Good location in San Telmo: four blocks from Plaza Dorrego. Many restaurants and small groceries and produce vendors immediate. The hostel is two floors above the street, with locked front entrance. There is a common area with TV, a kitchen for guest use and strong Wifi. One room is on-suite, the others have shared bath immediate in hall. Rooms have A/C and are clean.
I have traveled to Buenos Aires numerous times during the past six years, staying on 4 occasions in San Telmo. The area is fast becoming gentrified, and I find the Rep of San Telmo to be the best among the lower priced hostels in which I have stayed. Younger and older, seasoned hostel travelers will find it accommodating and restful. Be advised it is NOT a party hostel. the young couple who run the hostel are helpful, friendly and serious mined about their guests having a pleasant stay in their city and in San Telmo.

Room Tip: Be advised the hostel is two floors up marble stairs, there is no elevator
