“Great location, big rooms, helpful staff”
Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for our honeymoon and had a large room, with high ceilings and comfy bed. Staff were very helpful and breakfast was good with plenty of variety. Very close to San telmo market and the plaza de mayo. Brilliant wine bar next door and a fab terrace. Only negative is that we couldn't check in early.

Pulling up at the Moreno Hotel, we weren't sure that we had the right place; it was just a doorway (albeit an attractive one) without a sign. But a guard in the small lobby directed us, via a lovely antique lift, up to the reception on the first floor where we were warmly welcomed.

The Moreno proved to be an unexpected gem. Its location was excellent, a few blocks south of Plaza de Mayo and its subway stations, and just north of the San Telmo neighbourhood, with fascinating streets, shops, markets, bars and restaurants. The hotel is in an old building with wonderful stained glass in the stairwell, but it’s been modernised in the current trendy brown way. Our room, which cost about $120, was large, modern and beautifully appointed. And despite being in the heart of a big and active city, it was quiet at night and we slept soundly. Next time I’d prefer a front room looking onto the street as it’s full of old buildings and has a nice outlook.

Breakfast was included, in the dining room on the top floor of the hotel. The interesting view helped take our minds off the truly awful coffee and pretty ordinary fare. But that was the only negative for us - otherwise a great stay and terrific value for money. And the restaurant next door was excellent too - not cheap, but good food and a stunning wine list.

We stayed with a friend at Moreno for 13 nights in March, April 2013.
The hotel is in lively San Telmo and close to Microcentro, extremely convenient and close to many good restaurants, bars and tango places. It is a classy but unpretentious hotel with huge beautiful rooms and extremely helpful staff. ( and very reasonable price).
The reception desk staff was extraordinary and helped us many times in various ways making us feel at home. Breakfast could be enriched ,but breakfast staff was also extraordinary.I would definitely go back as it was one of the reasons I enjoyed the city so much.

Stayed here for a total of four nights. Room was huge and well appointed although dully lit.We had plumbing problems...fixed promptly and there was a broken tile in the shower. What makes this hotel is its location, although on arrival its locality left much to be desired. Graffiti and broken footpaths abound......but once inside...the staff and the rooms were very good indeed. Concierge and front desk were extremely helpful, and there was an excellent restaurant next door for lunch or evening dinner. Would stay again!

The area is the only reason why it doesnt get 5 stars. The rooms are XXL, the staff is awesome and the place itself is apt for a boutique hotel classification. It's right downtown, very close to main attractions and biz center. Also close to San Telmo, a must see. I travel solo in business and it's always the best deal.

The Moreno is a stylish boutique hotel aimed firmly at foreign visitors to Buenos Aires.
It is a very attractive place with an old-style chain-gated elevator and a striking first-floor reception.
We booked a "loft" - one of the bigger rooms - but even the supposedly smaller rooms were huge. The room was very nice. It had some signs of water damage, a darkened floor board, but was beautiful. The whole place was extremely clean.
The Moreno largely appears to cater to overseas tourists. Although marketed as being in San Telmo, the increasingly yuppified neighbourhood to the south of the centre, it is just a block or two from Plaza de Mayo and the Casa Rosada.
One of the big sells for us was the idea of a rooftop breakfast terrace. The terrace - weather permitting - IS really good. But the breakfast was surprisingly poor for a place so stylish. Stewed coffee, decent juices, toast, a bowl of fruit, some yoghurts and the medialunas. And one day the medialunas ran out. So boring fare.
The price, by European standards, was decent at under £80 a night. But the Moreno was let down by its breakfast and there are better-value deals for hotels to be had in Bs As. Any corner cafe in the city will get you a better breakfast.
Service at Moreno was fine and staff spoke Spanish and English.

This was such a joy. Wonderful renovation of big old building. Great big wrought-iron lifts going up through the centre. My room was the size of a large studio flat with high ceilings and a hip/urban/minimalist joy. Beautifully done with high quality finishes. Loved the bathroom and especially the large walk-in shower with wonderful water pressure. I had a first floor room at the front of building so some low level noise at times but not really a problem. This hotel really is a pleasure to stay in. Got a good deal on-line so only paid about £60 per night.

The reception area is very unusual and I thought it was lovely although Lonely Planet was a little snippy about it....
The breakfasts are standard Argentinian fare and one of the only areas that I thought the hotel could improve on. Also a nice rooftop terrace. A separate terrace with a hot-tub was out of action while I was there.

It's a shame that the hotel isn't closer to the centre of St Telmo. But only a 10/15 minute walk to main Dorrego square which is great early evening for a drink and to watch the tango. Also lots of side roads on the way which are full of bars and restaurants.

Although there is a restaurant below the hotel, it is fairly formal and fine dining.

The hotel service is excellent. Had lots of help with booking a ferry to Uruquay. They even offered to have the electronic ticket sent to them so they could print it easily for me. Later, after leaving the hotel, I managed to lose my return ticket. On emailing the reception staff, they had replied and provided me with another copy within fifteen minutes.

Would definitely return. And would recommend for a weekend stay -- the Sunday market runs from a few yards away into the central Dorrego square.
