This was our first stop on an 8 month trip and was great. Clean, friendly, hot water, free internet, nice breakfast and safe. Also the staff are really helpful and welcoming. I would definitely recommend it. Our favourite part was the cool roof terrace. Stay here!

I stayed at Hostel Telmo Tango for 6 nights and have paid in advance for my return from Uruguay in 5 days. The hostel is cleaned every day and looks like the pictures on the website. It´s been very quiet except for 1 night when there were some poeple in the courtyard area and its a bit of an echo. Most rooms are in the terrace area which is decorated with planters of begonias. They all have single bunk beds and a small side table /cabinet that you can lock. Or some rooms have a larger cabinet/cupboard that can be locked. A few rooms have a double bed. 2 rooms have balocnies facing over the street- one of these has a 2nd floor loft and sleeps 4. Its an amazing room.

The mattresses from my experience of 2 rooms are thin and a bit lumpty and the sheets a bit worn. Its the one drawback to the hostel, in my opinion. Breakfast is basic. Coffee, hot milk. Cereal and croissants, pastries and juice. Bathrooms are in the terrace area and there are numerous private bathroom/showers. I never had to wait and they were always clean. The kitchen is a basic hot plate with pots, pans and kettles provided and there´s a fridge for guests to store food. The front desk clerks apeak English and if George is still at the hostel when you visit you are in for a treat as he´s a real character: friendly, helpful and welcoming. The hostel also helped arrange for a taxi service from the airport, tour to nearby Tigre as well as a horse ranch 1hr out of the city.

During my stay, I have met various travellers from a wide variety of ages.. from early 20´s to later 40´s and its not a party or rowdy atmosphere at all.

San Telmo is a great neighborhood. Laundromats, cafes, restaurants and grocery stores are all within a few blocks if not right across the street. The Saturday street market in the area is not to be missed. At least 2 bike rental shops are within walking distance. Like any city the size of Buenos Aires, keep your valuables close to your body and out of sight as much as possible. I´m a single woman travelling alone and I feel fine walking the area at night but I have a considerable dose of street smarts.

Contact me if I can be of further assistance.

My fiance and I stayed here once before and returned again this past May when we traveled to Buenos Aires for a wedding. I really enjoy the ambiance of the hostel - it's an old converted mansion and features a stained glass solarium in the central common room and lobby area. The rooms are accessed through outdoor passageways and there are plenty of colorful flowers and sunlight in the hostel. There's free internet and the building is very safe and secure. The neighborhood in San Telmo is a little gritty but I felt safe walking alone at night as a female. Taxis are plentiful but there are plenty are areas to walk to.

It might take two to tango but it takes one great hostel to make your stay in Buenos Aires more enjoyable. All you hotel dwellers - why bother paying so much for an antiseptic gated community when you can say in a hostel and continue to experienece the city that you presumably paid to come here for in the first place.

And with its great location in San Telmo, it's array of staff who all seem to have different personalities but who are all helpful, kind and caring, to it's rocket fuel coffee - the Telmotango does Buenos Aires proud.

Gem of a place located in the old San Telmo region of BA, which was the birthplace of tango. Behind a small door is a fabulous colonial building. The rooms are clean and airy, if a little on small side. The staff are BRILLIANT (particularly Alex and Gustavo), nothing too much trouble. They arranged tango lessons for us as well as ferry tickets to Uruguay. We used this hostel as a base to travel Argentina, and stayed here on 3 seperate occasions. They looked after our luggage for no fee. and it as like visiting old friends when we came back. Great breakfast was a bonus as well!
