“Beautiful courtyards”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

From the outside the Krista does not look very appealing ! However ,once inside the decor is lovely with several quaint, quiet courtyards. Our superior room was very pleasant and quiet. Our only disturbance being the noise of stilletoed feet echoing as they went near our room. There is free Wi Fi and use of a terminal. The local neighbourhood was very good and we felt very safe. There were a lot of good restaraunts in the near vicinity within a couple of minutes walk.
However any visit into the centre will cost 40 to 50 pesos. If you go on a trip with "Expedicions" you will not be dropped off back at your hotel. This seems to be a common practice in Buenos Aires. The Manager/owner was extremely helpful and made many very good recommendations including Tango shows and local restaraunts. Would definitely stay at the Krista on any future visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a superior room or better

I booked Krista hotel for 3d/2n from 01/15/2013 thru 01/17/13 on hotwire.com (great deal) It is a great comfortable experience. The staff is very prompt answer emails before the trip. After arrived the airport, it took me total around half an hour to go through the custom, get some money exchange from banc there ($4.95 peso per $1 US, same official rate in the town) and booked the ticket to get on Manual Tien bus) It costs only $18 or $90 pesos (they take both us dollar and credit card) they drop me to the main station, then a small van (sit 4 people) transfer me to a place that is only 4 blocks away to the hotel. With a small luggage, it only took me around 5 minutes walk to the hotel. Once I arrived, I was upgraded to a better room. The room has beautiful name Afrodita. The decor of the room is dim and warm with orange color. The lamp cover has beautiful pattern that casts beautiful pattern once turn it on. They do have a very good free WiFi connection through out. It is quiet hotel. It seems like I am the only person in there since I am the only person in the breakfast area. very relax. I do have some trouble to use the shower. I think it is simply I do not know how to use it. Later on, there is no problem at all. Overall great value and stay there. Good location as well . It takes me around 20 minutes walk to plaza de italia. Overall, it is great value.

This hotel is a lovely historical house that has been converted with care and attention to a small boutique hotel. Good central location in Palermo Hollywood. T This was a nice oasis in the heart of the city with the outdoor courtyard. What sets this place apart is the helpful staff -- I found them to be very informative and helpful with questions and logistics In fact, I tried to book a ferry and there were some issues with the booking -- they assisted me in getting a refund when a return ticket could not be obtained Very much above and beyond service from Alejandro.

Great place to stay in BA. Quaint boutique hotel and amazing friendly and helpful staff. My friend and i were disappointed when we booked an estancia stay which fell through last minute and the staff at krista went out of their way to help us organise a replacement and saved the day! Very well located. we would highly reccomend this hotel.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2013

We just returned from seven nights at the Krista on our first trip to South America. Located in the heart of the hip Palermo Hollywood neighborhood in an early twentieth century private home, the ten-room boutique hotel is a great alternative.

In renovating the beautiful home that once belonged to a prominent Argentine neurosurgeon, the owners preserved much of the original layout and design. From the beautiful wooden front door to the stained glass and crown molding, walking into the Krista is like stepping back in time. Getting a skeleton key to your room at check-in as opposed to one those plastic ones just sort of sets the tone.

But what really sets the hotel apart is its outstanding staff. We arrived into Buenos Aires on an overnight flight from the U.S. We had made our reservations (including transportation to and from the hotel) ahead of time and, although we arrived before 10:00 in the morning, we were shown directly to our room. Throughout the week, the entire staff was great. Our room was cleaned promptly and well, and each evening we came back to perfect turn-down service complete with chocolates on the pillows.

We were in Buenos Aires over New Years Eve and, before we arrived, we received an email from Alejandro with several suggestions for popular restaurants and shows for the evening. When we spoke with Alejandro later that evening, he pointed out that New Years Eve is traditionally a quiet time in Buenos Aires with many locals closing up shop to spend the evening with family and friends. While we were surrounded by restaurants, he assured us most would be closed or booked. It's this kind of detail that can really help out when you're a stranger in town!

Keep in mind that this is an historic property, so it may not be to everybody's liking. Our first-floor room was large with a very comfortable king bed, plenty of storage and a flat-screen t.v. with satellite service. The bathroom, while perfectly clean, would be the one area that might be lacking. The shower tended to spray onto the floor, despite every effort we made to prevent it, and a fresh coat of paint wouldn't be wasted.

Overall, if you appreciate fine historic structures, you can't go wrong with the Krista. With great restaurants, shops and a wonderful bakery just steps away and a staff that goes above and beyond, this is real relaxation in the heart of Buenos Aires.

Room Tip: We were in room #5 on the ground floor overlooking the solarium. It was perfectly quiet with plenty...

The hotel is actually an historic house converted into a number of guest rooms, the majority of which have windows which face intimate, glass covered courtyards. The walls are painted a cheery yellow color and provide abundant light to the building’s interior spaces and original period detailing, such as stained glass and crown moulding imparts a relaxed, understated elegance. The public spaces and small courtyards of the hotel are outfitted with hip furnishings yet the design maintains the charm of the original architecture- the two worlds are nicely balanced.

We arrived early and were fortunate to have our room available almost immediately. We booked a standard room for 5 days and were happy to find it on the second floor with its own window overlooking the roof- granted not a pretty view but it was quiet and no one could walk by our room. We had our own controlled AC which worked well. With a large and very comfortable bed taking most of the floor space, some daily choreography was required to facilitate us and our suitcases. Overall, the room was in good repair and spotlessly cleaned. The bathroom, albeit small, was nicely outfitted altho the large shower would never drain properly and with only a half glass wall, water infiltrated the shower curb and wood base causing some visible damage. OK, as a stickler for details, this did bother me.

A few disappointments: We tried the small hot tub one afternoon but the water never did get hot so we gave up on it (after 1.5 hours). The Nescafe coffee machine in the lobby, available free of charge during breakfast even as coffee is served in the breakfast room is charged for at all other times of the day which seemed petty. Cookies are always available tho.

As other reviewers have mentioned, there is an abundance of restaurants, bars and cafes in the near vicinity and it’s a short stroll across the train tracks to the even busier Palermo Soho side. The hotel is a long walk to the Subte (its halfway between 2 lines), but buses runs right out front with a stop on the corner- just make sure you have your 2 one peso coins (not 1 two peso coin) to get on. We took it one a scenic tour all the way to La Boca.

Overall our stay was pleasant altho a tad lesser than anticipated, considering the rave reviews, ranking of the hotel and the rates. I liked the staff so much that it is difficult to write any negative comments but as always, want to relay our experience objectively.

Room Tip: Two Tips: One bus line ran on a narrow street thru the city and should be avoided at all cost as on...

Dear guests,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

We appreciate that you have highlighted the hotel decor and attention of our staff, we are very proud of them.

We are very sorry that you were unable to use our hottub, right now it is working perfectly fine after having done routine maintenance.

Regarding your tip about the bus that travels slow as it approaches the city center, that bus line is 111, and as for major bus lines, specially at peak hours, they should be avoided and adopt the tube/subway (subte) instead.

Warmest regards,

Cristina Marsden

My wife and I visited the Krista in early December, 2012. We booked it online and showed up at the hotel 10 minutes later. They gave us a free upgrade. The staff was very accommodating. The only problem to me was that we slept very, very well, and, as a result, missed the "breakfast until 11:00" each morning. Still, the sweet lady, Alice, who worked the front desk got everything back out of the kitchen for us for us for our 1:00 p.m. "breakfast". The staff tried their best to make our stay very nice and they certainly succeeded. I met the kind owner, Kristina, as she and I marveled at the performance from their well-know French musician guest who played his guitar and sang for us in the beautiful lobby of this historic home/hotel. What a treat! He must have loved it as well as he was there for a month. I have never written a review before but felt I should as I owed it to Krista and her wonderful staff.
