The hotel is actually an historic house converted into a number of guest rooms, the majority of which have windows which face intimate, glass covered courtyards. The walls are painted a cheery yellow color and provide abundant light to the building’s interior spaces and original period detailing, such as stained glass and crown moulding imparts a relaxed, understated elegance. The public spaces and small courtyards of the hotel are outfitted with hip furnishings yet the design maintains the charm of the original architecture- the two worlds are nicely balanced.
We arrived early and were fortunate to have our room available almost immediately. We booked a standard room for 5 days and were happy to find it on the second floor with its own window overlooking the roof- granted not a pretty view but it was quiet and no one could walk by our room. We had our own controlled AC which worked well. With a large and very comfortable bed taking most of the floor space, some daily choreography was required to facilitate us and our suitcases. Overall, the room was in good repair and spotlessly cleaned. The bathroom, albeit small, was nicely outfitted altho the large shower would never drain properly and with only a half glass wall, water infiltrated the shower curb and wood base causing some visible damage. OK, as a stickler for details, this did bother me.
A few disappointments: We tried the small hot tub one afternoon but the water never did get hot so we gave up on it (after 1.5 hours). The Nescafe coffee machine in the lobby, available free of charge during breakfast even as coffee is served in the breakfast room is charged for at all other times of the day which seemed petty. Cookies are always available tho.
As other reviewers have mentioned, there is an abundance of restaurants, bars and cafes in the near vicinity and it’s a short stroll across the train tracks to the even busier Palermo Soho side. The hotel is a long walk to the Subte (its halfway between 2 lines), but buses runs right out front with a stop on the corner- just make sure you have your 2 one peso coins (not 1 two peso coin) to get on. We took it one a scenic tour all the way to La Boca.
Overall our stay was pleasant altho a tad lesser than anticipated, considering the rave reviews, ranking of the hotel and the rates. I liked the staff so much that it is difficult to write any negative comments but as always, want to relay our experience objectively.
