“A fantastic experience”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Stayed here during a trip around South America and this was the best hotel we stayed in throughout the whole trip. From the first minute we walked in we felt welcomed and were shown to our fantastic room. The bed was huge and very very comfortable. The room was spotless and the hotel was very clean in general. The hotel had a very nice family run feel to it while also maintaining an extremely professional standard.

We took tango lessons in the hotel and attended the hotel's famous tango show dinners, both of which we thoroughly enjoyed. The location was decent with the metro a short walk away and close proximity to some nice restaurants/bars.

The best part of the hotel was the staff who were extremely helpful. George was an absolute gentleman and was always willing to help. Special thanks to Marcelo for the late night chats and top notch recommendations! A great experience, would love to go back!

Dear Jeci100,
I feel extremely happy when I read this kind of things, as with the bad review you get what we need to change, with your review we find that we are doing things right. The staff we find, worth your weight in gold, they are really helpfull in all your needs and really friendly. We try our best to keep it fresh and shine this historicla building of San Telmo. Thank you very much for your time and we will really glad to have you back with us.

This place is just so different... it is a tradtional old style building in San Telmo and the last writer was correct... cabbies don't really know where this place is. But it is certainly worth staying here in this old quarter of Buenos Aires - safe and atmospheric with lots of places to eat and explore.
The hotel itself has large painted tango-themed murals adorning many of its walls, spiraling staircases, clean rooms with high ceilings and comfy beds. The staff are helpful and friendly (see Carlos run up the stairs with 2 suitcases!) and the service is thoughtful and generous. The only week points are that the hot water took forever to get to our room (but then, I guess it is an old building with old plumbing) and the breakfast was a little lack-lustre by the third morning. But all said and done, I would return to this delighful, unusual hotel. It made a great start to our holiday... but next time, I would go the whole hog and take tango lessons!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the spa bath... if you have all day to wait for it to fill!

No one seems to know this place. If you ask cab drivers, vendors or police they don't know this boutique hotel. But every evening, people from all over the city, and tourists too, find their way here for tango lessons. And the lessons are wonderful and inexpensive.
But the hotel is also breathtaking! The owner, Hector Villalba and his wife attended to every detail a they refurbished the 2 buildings, now conjoined into Mansion Dandi Tango. There are hand-painted murals in each guest room and period furniture, in combination with what our 20th century tastes demand (i.e. ceiling fans, abundant hot water, bidets and WiFi).
The staff is professional and attentive. In fact Claudio (reception) teaches group classes and Marcelo (reception, also but also grandson of the owner) teaches individual classes of Tango.
Hotel Mansion Dandi has my vote!

A splendid and unique hotel with amazing opportunities for tango lectures. Situated in the heart of San Telmo. Very classic argentine art deco. Close to Plaza Dorrego. A lot of really good restaurants in the area. We had a very nice stay for 2 weeks and we will gobthere again.

Traveled in September of 2008.
Stayed at Hotel Mansion Dandi Royal during an Argentina Tango dance intensive in 2008. It was also during my birthday. The staff was attentive and helpful. Tango workshops where excellent and varied. The tango show held on a Saturday evening with dinner was amazing. The hotel was centrally located and close to other events, attractions and restaurants.
Don't think we could have picked a better place for a tango vacation!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Dandi Royal Suite and it was comfy.

Once you walk in the tall wooden doors, you are immersed in Tango culture within a beautiful and architecturally interesting building. From the famous tango dancers and composers painted on the walls to the massive amount of wood staircases and open lighting, to the high ceiling rooms, this hotel transports you to another place. I was told the hotel was designed as, and used to be a bordello and this seems to fit. After all, the rooms are not oversized and there is not a lot of room to hang clothes or lay out the tango shoes, but when the objective is a bordello, who needs the extra space? For our experience, the room and facilities meet our needs. We had a quite room in the back, on the second floor. The tango workshop for which we came were all in the hotel which made it easy for us. The rooms for the workshops were all good and met needs. Those who worked there were helpful and friendly. It's located in a central area but one should take taxis in the evening to be safe.

An old art deco style mansion hidden within the tango area of BA. In fact, our taxis would struggle to find it without the name of the road because it is not actually listed as a hotel but as a mansion, so make sure you remember the address! I went with 4 girlfriends to learn tango and this is also a tango school so there were lessons going on throughout the day. We did go in March which is the tango festival for Buenos Aires and teachers from all around the world congregate for dancing, shows and teaching. The interior of the building was absolutely charming and stylish but a little shabby chic. A couple of the bedrooms did not have windows so make sure you request a room with a view when you book if that is what you want! There is no dining room as such, but one of the ballrooms doubles up so you have to eat out for lunch and dinner. Just round the corner on the right, 3 minute walk is a super little steakhouse (I'm vegetarian so there were options). A small swimming/dipping pool is on the roof with a handful of old/broken sunbeds and chairs, not particularly inviting but somewhere to sit (if you're quick) when the sun comes out. I would definitely return to this hotel if I were to go back for more tango lessons but it is not somewhere I would stay for luxury and comfort.

Room Tip: Perfect for tango lessons and to get a real feel for the genuine Tan Telmo area but not a luxurious...

Dear Karen,
Thank so much for your review, that help us to improve ourself. I think you were here with us during the CITA festival, that´s a big festival with really good teachers from all aroudn Argentina. We already add more option to our menu, so for the festival we will have more dishes, so if you decide to come back you will be glad, but as you mention, there are plenty of option beside the hotel to eat outside. We are taking care of all that deatails you mention, we are working harder to make everything perfect for our guest.
