Beautiful building with lots of character in the middle of "old town". Staff were very friendly. Breakfast was a disappointment - only bread and jam - until we were finished and some people came and ordered eggs, cheese and ham. No one asked us if we wanted anything else and there were no sign about it, so better info about that would be good.

But greatest disappointment were the free daily tango classes that was supposed to be included. There were only tango classes for $50 each available.

So all in all, very charming hotel with friendly and helpful staff, but didn't quite live up to our expactations.

Dear Fidelifideli,
Thanks for you comment and thought about the hotel, as we notice the problem with the breackfast, we change it back to the buffet breackfast, so you don´t need to ask for anything, everything is now on the buffet table. The lesson are not included with the rate, sorry for the missunderstanding, they are included when guest have some tango package or an special deal. I am terrible sorry to hear that we were not live up to your expectation. We take this coment as a help to improve ourself.

Beautiful building, cozy, comfy rooms, and convenient location. The staff were all friendly and accommodating. They provided helpful information and advice regarding day trips and different areas of the city.
Breakfast was enjoyable. Eggs, fruit, cheese, and yogurt (in addition to buffet) can be requested at kitchen door in breakfast room. All quite tasty.
The hotel security is excellent and made us feel like we were staying with family.

Usually when I write a review, my wife agrees with me completely, though she is a much tougher critic. My wife absolutely loved it....she loved the huge door at the entrance she loved the creative frescoes on the walls, she loved the public room and the tango hall, with its many nooks and crannies. It is indeed a remarkable hotel with regard to its decor etc.
The tango lessons were very good, my suggestion is to go to a group class and pick one of the teachers that suits you best. We are old time tango dancers, the group class was less than useful early but got delightful as time went on. Many of the people attending were porteños ( locals) and so the afternoon turned in to a delightful milonga (tango dance event) in a wonderful dance space. Once you are there you can pick the teacher who suits you best.
The rooms , even the deluxe room , was small and the bathroom even smaller, which was a stopper for me ( I am a "big" guy). Though small they are delightfully decorated and some even have a terrace, which faces a bunch of other buildings but gives you the impression of being in Paris.....( with a little imagination).
The hotel is located in San Telmo which is famous for its connection with tango. It is a bit down scale but quite safe by comparison with other areas in Buenos Aires ( which are downright dangerous). There are buses nearby and the subway is a few blocks away and gets you to the center of town very efficiently. You can also ask the front desk to call you a taxi which will take you to Florida ( e.g. in the center of the shopping district) for around 40 pesos ( almost ten dollars at the official rate....lol).
The further away from the center of town you go the less fluent people are in English , though one of the folks at the front desk was from California, and the other spoke quite fluent English. Once you are on the street you may find speaking English a challenge. Buenos Aires is not the safest city in the World and there is considerable street crime. Best advice, don't wander around San Telmo at night unless you know it is safe ( ask the front desk) and don't take along more than you are prepared to loose ( leave the iphone, the jewlery, the dollars, and the rolex, real or knock off, in the safe).
The breakfast, included in the hotel fee, is a rather modest affair . One person works the room, offering croissants( two kinds the thinner made with fat, the fatter made with butter), bread and cheese. The buffet runs out of food often, but is replenished on request. We found out on our last day, they also provide eggs ( I don't know if they charge extra for those).
If great security is important to you, this may not be the best hotel for you, both in terms of the neighborhood and the security the hotel offers.
On Sundays, about 5 blocks away there is an excellent outdoor fair at Plaza Doriega. Great street scene, and wonderful tango, dancing and bargains. While a terrific tango orchestra is playing you can hear a hawker shouting" crazy egg....crazy tomato" ....Crazy Argentinians!
God bless them!

Room Tip: The room on the first floor is very large but has a lot of street noise. Second floor rooms are lov...

The decoration on the walls is "unique" and some will consider it very OTT but the longer you stay in Buenos Aires the more you will come to love the individuality. (I also stayed for a couple of nights at the Sheraton, which could have been anywhere in the world and didn't feel Argentinian at all.) The staff at the hotel are amazing and couldn't do enough to make my stay a truly memorable experience. Their warmth and hospitality make it feel more like a home than a faceless hotel. Perfect location for exploring San Telmo, especially the antiques market on a Sunday in Plaza Dorrego which is about a 5 - 10 minute walk. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the true Buenos Aires

really interesting hotel- bordering on the slightly mad. Atmospheric, old grand building with interesting bedrooms. We got 2 fanstastic rooms in the main bit (we got impression there were smaller rooms via a second staircase). Okish breakfast- usual for Argentina (although more fruit)

In a slightly run down part of San Telmo

swimming pool and swirl pool not working- no water in them which was a bit annoying

beds a bit soft

but would recommend it if you are interested in an off beat wacky hotel- we loved it

Room Tip: ask for rooms above main stair case (floor 2)

We chose this hotel primarily for the tango lessons. The decor was nice albeit hotel very dark inside plus areas could do with modernising a little to freshen it up.

Unfortunately we only managed 1 lesson and the bar at the bottom of the hotel was rented out for private functions so we didn't have tango on the doorstep as expected.

The location of San Telmo felt a bit unsafe and the contrast of this compared to Palermo on the last night was significant and like a different city.

On the whole it wasn't bad

Stayed here April 2007. Nestled away in the San Telmo District, this Tango Hotel was great. Great staff, food, clean an overall GREAT Hotel! We took a group of 15 with us on this trip. Check in was easy & the concierge service was outstanding! When I go back to Buenos Aries I will stay here again. Location was within 100 yards of the subway.
