Milhouse Hostel Hipo
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 22, 2014

I stayed dozens of hostels everywhere but never seen
an decent and honest place like there. Rooms/dorms
are OK. Some comes with A/C and private bathroom.
But this is an stressfree place there was a lot of space,
a lot of bathroom and lots of thing you need which you
can find. Simple but OK breakfast. Front desk was very
very helpful, they are looking for your eyes may be you
need or ask something.
Finally a very well place to stay.

The staff at Milhouse Hipo spoke most languages between them and couldn't have been more helpful. The bigger Hostel Milhouse Avenue was only 5 minutes away on foot and had a representative there who could help with any or all of your onward travel needs. Even though it is a party hostel, we didn't hear any of that, but could hear people talking loudly on the terrace. We stayed here for a few days before we went to Iguazu and a couple of days when we got back.

We are a couple who spend 5nights at Millhouse hippo. It's location is excellent! Beside a tram and walking distance to San Telmo. We made lots of friends at the hostel and we partied a lot! Having said that you don't have to while your there. The dorm was huge! And it's very clean all the time! Only thing I can complain about is there is no aircon

Milhouse offers an amazing amount of activities and excursions, which is excellent for the unorganised traveller such as me who just turns up in a city and hopes they will discover things to do. It is a party hostel, every night there is a party at one of the two milhouse hostels, starting at 11pm, with transport to a club at 2am (Buenos Aires night life hours took a bit to get used to!). However the bars are a way from the rooms, so that if you do not want to participate, you can sleep and are not kept up by noise. The best part is the walking and bike tours offered during the day, the tango shows and other excursions offered. There is a travel agency in the hostel, and all the staff are full of advice for things to do and places to explore. To take full advantage of what the hostel (and the city) offer you have to give up sleeping altogether!

Room Tip: I was in a female dorm, it had no air conditioning but high ceiling and a big fan made the heat bear...

The hostel is in an amazing location right by the obelisk. There are lots of outings organised such as polo, walking tours, tango etc and it's cheaper than going direct. The hostel is very clean and good value for money which includes a generous breakfast (400 pesos for a private room a night). The 24 hour security at the door is reassuring.
There are two Milhouse hostels in Buenos Aires and the parties alternate between hostels so you are guaranteed to get a good nights sleep every other night. I would recommend asking for a room on the third floor as you can't hear a thing, plus there is a communal balcony to chill out in the sun.
This is a fun, young, party hostel and you are guaranteed to meet people from all over the world.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third fllor - it's much quieter

First and foremost if you want to meet people this place pretty much guarantees you will genuinely encounter plenty of other backpackers. This doesn't mean that they will be the ideal type of person you'd like to socialise with however.

Milhouse is a party hostel and as such it attracts the party type, (the fixed term holiday), the solo backpacker (the unlimited traveller) and all in between. It may be a good place to start as buenos Aires is many peoples starting point so you can meet people and travel onwards with them (apparently a very common instance). Dorms are clean, bathrooms are well maintained and the social areas are large and inviting - designed for maximised socialisation.

Milhouse spoon feeds it's guests everything the need to have a 'good time' in the Argentinian capital. There are plenty of day time actives on offer such as walking and bicycle tours at a pretty decent price (although they are also offered for free in the centre). But the main attractions are the night time events. Weekly events such as BBQs and live music shows plus every night there is a new club that the place encourages it's guests to go to (inc. entrance and transfer). There is always a pre-party at one of the hostels which start at 11 and go on until 2. Early nights are out of the question.

One of the biggest negatives is that it encourages a 'hangover' culture where so many people spend the day in the hostel suffering, recovering and ultimately living for the next night. If you are on a party holiday it is great but if you want to do things in BsAs then I'd look elsewhere or limit your time here.

Location is good, close to the Obelisco. Price is a little steep but you get what you pay for. Be warned, take plenty of vitamins with you. Every other person is ill in Milhouse from over abuse. Staff are friendly indeed.

Room Tip: No lifts. First floor dorms are great.

Good location. Otherwise, not my kind of hostel. Bedrooms good size and good lockers. Could do with new mattresses. Bathrooms not very clean and poor kitchen facilities so didn't really feel equipped to cook here.

Staff just about answered your questions (after leaving you standing there waiting a few minutes) and I didn't find them overly welcoming or friendly. Didn't do any of the organised tours but they seem to organise a lot which is great.

Not the friendliest atmosphere for solo travelers, better for groups, in my opinion. Hosts parties in tandem with other Milhouse hostel on Av. de Mayo.
