“Great service. OK room.”
Reviewed December 1, 2009

My partner and I stayed at the BoBo for four nights on our recent trip to South America.

The positives:

1. Small hotel: There are only seven rooms in this hotel, so it is a very manageable size. Feels a little like staying in a modern B&B, actually. And the small size ensures that you get great service, particularly from the concierge.

2. Fantastic concierge(s): The concierge would help you with absolutely anything. Where to see authentic tango? Where to eat the best steak? Where not to walk for safety reasons? All of this would be answered in a friendly way. And, she would always get us reservations at the best table or the best seat in the house. Fantastic!

3. Rooms are spotless: The cleaning staff at this hotel is the best I've seen anywhere.

4. Nice breakfast: The food in the hotel's restaurant is great, especially at breakfast. There are a wide variety of choices that are included in your room rate. All very tasty and fresh. Plus, they have "extra" items that you can order and pay a very nominal fee for (e.g. French Toast, Bagel with Lox, etc.) that are also great. Plus, the orange juice is the best I've had anywhere. Service can be a bit slow, though.

5. Very nice outdoor terrace: Our room (which isn't atypical, I don't think) had a great outdoor terrace where you could sit and have a drink or surf the net. Very peaceful and nice. There is a school next door, and they had graduation one night...which was the only non-peaceful night. But they sang and danced, and it was fun to watch...so not an issue.

6. Free WiFi: Fast and free.

7. Good location if you want to be in Palermo Viejo: Palermo Viejo is a high-end, quaint shopping district that also has great restaurants. Pretty quiet by B.A. standards. So perfect if you're going to B.A. to shop and eat. That said, it is a bit far from the city's center, so, if you want to be close to the bustling center, think a 20 minute cab ride. Cabs are cheap, fortunately. (A cab ride to the center is probably $4 US).

8. Reasonable rates: I believe we paid $140 US per night for a standard room, which was entirely reasonable. You do pay in USD, though. So changes in the exchange rate aren't going to affect you either way.

OK, there are a few things you have to know:

1. Decor: The decor is very modern/hip. Probably not everyone's style. Each room has a different theme, based on era. We had the 80s room (Room #4), and it was a bit off-putting, to be honest. Maybe some of the other rooms are more charming, but ours wasn't.

2. Neighborhood: Again, if want to be close to the city center, you are a bit far. There would be other places to stay if this is your goal.

But, all in all, a very good place to stay.

We spent two nights at the BoBo at the end of a Wine Tour of South America. I chose it through the reviews in Trip Advisor . It was excellent. The reviews are accurate. The staff very very friendly and helpful. They even send you a 'birthday card' when its due. Would definately recommend this hotel.

One scam to beware of with Taxi drivers in Buenos Aires. I paid a taxi driver with a large note and he said he did not have change and then asked me for dollars . As i was looking for dollars, he switched the note and I ended up with a fake note. Which I discovered the next day when out shopping! Its always taxi drivers . i have been duped and diddled everywhere in world with taxi drivers !!! I never learn.

The Bobo Hotel, in the heart of Palmero is a beautiful, modern hotel set in a renovated old colonial style house. With only 6 rooms it is intimate but not overbearing.
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful..all with perfect English and plenty of hints and tips about the city.
The restaurant was excellent as was the wine list - the reviews are to be believed.
They have bought the building next door and are currently in the process of expanding the hotel and including a spa..due to be opened next year - definately worth another visit!

We originally made plans to go to a hotel in el centro, which ended up being awful. We decided to call around to see if there were any other hotels available based on our Fodors Buenos Aires travel book. Most places were booked, but we came across BoBo,which had one open room. We decided to reserve it for the next day. The staff on the phone seemed really personable and understanding. He even said that if no one took it for that night, that we would be able to check in before the standard check in time. We got the "techno" room, which at first thought, frightened us. We thought it would have a fogger, techno lights and music going "thump thump thump thump" in the background. Anything was better than where we were at at this point. The next morning we were tired from lack of sleep from our horrible hotel experience at the first place, and we jetted over to BoBo. The neighborhood is beautiful and so is the building. The building is secure with a buzzer to gain entry. It also has a restaurant and bar on the first floor. The woman who was working at the time was so helpful. She even gave us a map and explained all of the sites that we should hit up. She came upstairs with us and opened the beautiful french doors to our room. The room was not at all as scary as I thought it would be. It was tastefully decorated and modern. The room had a peaceful patio deck with a table and chairs. The artwork was modern and the bathroom was a nice grey granite with stainless steel sink. There were fresh flowers in the bathroom and the bedroom and bathrobes. The complimentary breakfast was nice and so was the server. After awhile, the staff got to know you and it was very nice and friendly. We wanted to go to the zoo on our last day, and my husband called the lady downstairs to ask if she knew how much the entrance was, and she ended up calling them to verify for us. They also called for a car service to take us to the airport. Overall, I would say this was the best hotel experience I've had so far. I would love to come back to Buenos Aires JUST to stay at BoBo!!!

My wife and I recently spent 5 nights at Bobo and enjoyed every aspect of the hotel. The hotel itself if a beautiful 3 story historical mansion that has been carefully converted into a hotel. I will try to break down our great experience and be as neutral as possible in my review, but it will be difficult:

Check In and Front Desk: Upon entering we were greeted by a very helpful Vanessa who told us everything we needed to know about the hotel and the city of Buenos Aires. All 3 front desk employees (Max and Cecilia) were really a pleasure to deal with as each of them was willing to help out with whatever we needed, even if it was just for some suggestions about where to go, what to do, or where to eat.

Restaurant: The restaurant occupies the entire first floor and is open to the public. It is beautiful and has a great atmosphere to relax in when you wake up or get home from a day exploring. We were actually given complimentary breakfast AND lunch tickets for the restaurant as well. We were not sure if this was because it was the slow season or what, but it was nice and the food was top notch. The wine was very inexpensive and a great quality. The servers (Martin especially) were great. He helped us with our Spanish and made us feel at home.

Rooms: We stayed in the Pop room and really like it. It has a huge bathroom, 2 sets of French Doors that open onto a narrow terrace , and really high ceilings. We were also fortunate enough to get upgraded our last night to the Argentina Room. It has a lot of light and a beautiful tub. The decorating in both rooms was very authentic and made you feel very at home. Although both rooms were great, we actually liked the Pop room best. We got a chance to stick our head in the Classic room which was beautiful, but a bit smaller. Our only complaint about the Pop room was that it was right at the top of the stairs to the second floor and you could sometimes hear noise from downstairs later in the night from the staff or the entrance door slamming shut, but not a big problem.

Location: I think what we liked best about the hotel was its location. We scoped out where some of the other hotels were that we considered and BoBo's location in Palermo Soho is top notch. It was a 5 minute walk to the subway, ATM (which there are very few of), the center of Palermo Soho (a wide variety of very good restaurants and bars and shopping), and walking distance to Palermo Hollywood which seemed to have fewer restaurants and shopping than Palermo Soho. We also were able to take a nice walk to Recoleta (takes about 45min) which we found to be similar to the Upper West Side in Manhattan. It is a more upscale area that felt more city like, which would not have given us the great experience we had.

Overall, we loved our stay at BoBo Hotel. I would say that the very best thing about the experience was the family atmosphere of the hotel. I don’t know if I have ever stayed anywhere where you would see such close relationships between everyone from the managers to the cleaning staff. They all treated each other with a lot of respect and it really comes off well. You get to stay in an upscale comfortable setting with great people who make you stay feel like you are at home.

We had a lovely time at the Bobo in the heart of Palermo Soho. The staff is always eager to please and be helpful. It is small and one feels "at home." We stayed in the "Minimalist" room which has a good size balcony with seating area looking over other buildings. Very quiet and roomy. The mansion next door is being gutted and will be an extension to the present location. Hopefully the quality of service and the charming atmosphere will continue.
