“Not worth it for the double room”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2014

We weren´t looking for noisy parties and so while it is likely to be ok value for dorms and those looking for a party we didn´t enjoy it and we certainly dont´recommend the double room. We paid quite a lot (they asked for cash in advance - it was $1400 in total) and we didn´t sleep well for 3 of 4 nights.

Pros
1 Fantastic location in trendy Palermo
2 New and clean (although maybe not for long)
3 Hot showers

Cons
1 Double room was SO hot and stuffy. No ac which you really do need in the summer heat in BA. The window for the double room opened out into the small courtyard so no breeze and people walking right past it to go to the roof terrace (at ALL hours of the night) so not much privacy.
2 Really noisy if there are lots of people about and it was full when we were there (high season). They had a stag do of Argentinians staying who were up every night until 2am and then made loads more noise on returning at 6am.
3 Can only drink alcohol bought in the hostel and as they are making so much money from this they are happy to let people drink and make noise throughout the night. When we asked when it would be quieter so we could sleep they said this is how a hostel is.
4 Common areas was sometimes over run by the owners and staff´s own friends so we sometimes felt uncomfortable being down there. And too hot in our room to hang out there + the internet did not work well in the room
5 Info on what to do in BA was not very forthcoming. No tours or map offered but they did book us a taxi and were helpful when we asked for anything.

Oh and it was a pretty pathetic attempt at a breakfast!

Found the vibe a little unfriendly and generally not a great place to hang out - in fact one of the worst hostel experiences in over 2 months travelling.

Room Tip: If it is hot and you want peace and quiet dont´bother with the double room on the first floor.

I stayed there last week for one night before going to Montevideo and then another two nights at Dogo Hostel. What can I say other than what a chilled out, clean, cool atmospheric hostel? Eugenio is a brilliant host and a very cool guy. He has friends who work with him and are always at the desk whenever you need them.

I stayed in the 4 bed dorm with a shared bathroom en suite. It was very clean and the showers had hot water. The hostel attracts a chilled out crowd as well so it is very easy to get talking to others in the hostel.

There is also a terrace on the roof where the guys can cook an Asado or even where you can read a book in the sun or even sit out later that night and enjoy a cerveza and chat with the other residents.

The hostel is located in the Pallermo area of Buenos Aires. It's an area with a lot of restaurants and bars and very safe to walk around at night time. The guys love drinking mate. I forgot to bring my one home with me and it is still in the kitchen. Feel free to use it anyone who has not tried mate ;)

I cannot reccommend this hostel enough. I'm back in Ireland about 4 days now and still miss the cool people there. Thanks to Eugenio and all the lads for a great stay.

I can't express how much I liked this hostel. I'm in panama right now, but I miss Dogo hostel and buenos aires.
I stayed there for for a week, and then went to Uruguay (Cabo Polonio), and then for another week when I came back. I didn't care about finding someplace new, because I was so happy with what I already had. Dogo made me feel like home. I'm not a big hostel person, but I really enjoyed Dogo, and the friendly staff, that always helped me with what ever, calling the laundry service, fixing my boat ticket to Uruguay ++ They also have absolutely fantastic humor and they really care about the people that are staying there. Staying there felt like being the staffs guests. It's a beautiful roof where you can barbecue and enjoy the afternoon sun with other guests. The thing is that people that choose to stay at this hostel are all so friendly, it feels like they choose the hostel for the same reasons as me, so it's very easy to become their friend, because they have the same values as me. I got so many friends there! We all went out and had dinner together!
This hostel really made my trip. And its so quiet and peaceful there, the location is the best! No problems sleeping, it's clean, and the best thing, is the staff!!! I love them all!

Room Tip: the rooms with the balcony!

I spent one week in total at Dogo - at first a few days and then returning for a nearly another week because I loved it so much!

Eugenio who owns and runs Dogo is great and really takes pride in providing a great experience for everyone. All of the staff are really friendly and will help out in anyway they can.

The hotel itself is fantastic. Amazing kitchen - clean, bright and has everything you need to cook full meals. The rooms are also very clean and light - as it is a smaller hostel it is never crazy busy meaning you have plenty of space to yourself. Beds are new and really comfortable. There is a great terrace upstairs with a BBQ - a basic necessity in Argentina! Breakfast is provided - typical Argentinian of small toats, Dulce de Leche and other spreads, fruit and coffee.

I fell in love with the surrounding area of Palmero - the first day we arrived we wondered if it was Argentina we had arrived to or in fact somewhere in Italy! Such a lovely area with many cool cafe's, restaurants and bars plus great shopping. It really for the most part feel more like you are in Europe than Latin America.

Dogo is a great place to base yourself and take in the wonderful energy and atmosphere of Buenos Aires. Enjoy!

Room Tip: There is one private double room, the rest are small dorms of 4 or 6. All are quite. There are shutt...

Dogo was everything we wanted from a hostel! The staff were so friendly and couldn't have done more to help us have a great stay in Buenos Aires!! The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable, lovely kitchen and comfortable social space downstairs. The location was spot on and the area soho palermo had lots of great bars and restaurants. The roof terrace was also a great space for meeting others and the hostel staff cooked a great BBQ! Had a great stay, the best hostel that I stayed in during my time in South America and I would definitely go back!

River y nada mas!!

The place has a good location and it’s design is cool. However. the double room we stayed in was not worth the money we paid. It was small and stuffy, but most importantly smelly from the bathroom. Very smelly. The owner was nice, but one of the hostel stuff could use some more knowledge on the area.... We asked for a tango recommendation and didn’t get anything useful. The dorms seem quite nice and are probably a much better deal - for a double we got a much better deal in a hotel close by, with a room that was cheaper and much, much nicer.

Dogo was the most fantastic hostel, my friends and I stayed there for over a week as we just loved it! The location is fantastic in the heart of Soho, Palermo, loads of great bars, restaurants and trendy shops on the door step!

The staff literally couldn't do enough to help, although some of their English wasn't completely fluent and our Spanish was basic, they used google translate and were very patient! The staff helped us book gig tickets, football, skydiving and even to find restaurants that were suitable for allergy sufferers! The hostel is ran by 3 friends (one of which is a drummer in a famous Argentinian band!) and a very hot French guy that works with them!

The hostel was very clean and as it's only a few months old, it's all lovely and new and really is home from home rather than the usual tatty hostels we visited! The kitchen in particular is so well equipped and very clean!

Each morning they served bread, apples, dulce de leche (local speciality, you have to try!) and fresh coffee.

This isn't a party hostel (although there weren't many people staying when we were there, as it wasn't peak season) but there's a great roof terrace and they serve beer & wine, it's a great place to chill out with friends and have a BBQ!

I literally can't recommend Dogo enough and I look forward to visiting there again in the future!

Room Tip: We stayed in the mixed dorm with shared bathroom, which was basic but very clean. However if you wan...
