This is not a cookie cutter hotel. It is a rather unusual, old style building and is very affordable. Though our room was a little shabby in some respects, it was clean and quiet. The hard working desk clerks were kind and helpful.

If you are looking to stay in Ricoleta on a budget, Lion D'or is adequate. It is charming, which also translates to awkward and noisy at times. The staff keeps the essentials tidy; the towels are clean if threadbare and small. The bedding is fresh as well, if scratchy and written on with markers. The folks behind the desk toe the line of unfriendly and totally unhelpful, but they don't represent the attitude of all Portenos. Breakfast, which isn't included, is at a place down the street that reflects the same attitude of the staff. The food was bare bones but cheap. They do not accept credit cards at Lion D'or. The wireless is poor at best. You get what you pay for at this hotel. Again, for the location and price...adequate.

Hotel Lion d'Or is not your typical modern hotel. The ceilings in our room were quite high, the floor was not carpeted, and the bathroom was quite small.

On the positive side, the location is excellent for visiting Recoleta Cemetery or the Fine Arts Museum, and the price was lower than most other hotels I looked at.

On the negative side, I find that more modern hotels have more noise-reducing features (like carpeting, thicker walls, and tighter windows and doors).

If you like out-of-the-ordinary places to stay, and are on a tight budget--this would be a good place to stay. If you like modern hotel rooms, you should look elsewhere.

Stayed here 3 times. Very clean. Excellent bedding. Showers good. Staff really helpful and trustworthy. Personally liked old building with high ceilings etc but some people may find some rooms a bit dark. Ask for one with ext window. Breakfast is optional extra and taken round the corner but very good value. All rooms have safes. Location fantastic. Stonesthrow from recoleta cemetery and within the Manuel tienda Leon door to door drop off and pick up zone where you get taken to and from their terminal/your hotel for the airport bus. Much cheaper and safer than a taxi. Must pay in cash.

positive:
the friendly and helpful staff, the architecure (this place used to be an old embassy and contains most of the old features), location is very close to Recoleta Cementary, 10 min walk from Avenida Santa Fee with shopping and Subte station and 3 min walk from Avenida Las Heras with loads of bus lines. There are also a lot of nice cafes and restaurants in the area.
negative:
the bathrooms I had were small and akwardly shaped. the place is generally clean in the important areas like toilet, bedsheets etc but it could do with some dusting and painting.

overall it was a nice stay, especially due to the helpful and profesional staff.
