Owner description: Architecture buffs will love the opulent, early 20th-century buildings that line this mile-long pedestrian mall, popular for its gem, leather and fur stores.

I like Florida Street. It is a mixed bag; you see all things there. It is a congested walk with shops everywhere, and people. This is another place best visited in the daylight. Street performers and tango dancers abound for your viewing pleasure. There are some nice shops and a lot of souvenir shops, places to eat, coffee houses, even a lovely church. The flavor of this atmosphere is fun and the cross cultural experience is worth the time. Wear your walking shoes and keep your eyes open. The area is an easy walk from many hotels and nearby parks are lovely.

This is a main shopping and walking area in the city. Unfortunately, most of it is torn up and will be for a while. It is fun to walk for a while, but it is very crowded. Look into a couple of the malls and then go to another area. You likely will not want to shop here because of prices and that you likely can go to many of these stores back home. Remember, it is a shopping mall area.

Calle Florida in Buenos Aires is a pedestrian street lined with stores and shops. Calle Florida is advertised as an an elegant shopping street in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires and is supposed to be one of the city's leading tourist attractions. However after spending the better part of a morning walking up and down the street, we could not figure out why. Perhaps our view was tainted by the fact that much of the 1 KM is torn up for construction, leaving only a very narrow lane for people to try and walk.
To be fair there are a lot of stores there and a big famous shopping center (Galleria Pacifico) which we walked through. It is quite nice, butnothing all that special.

It looks like it has been a great place in the past. Now, what you will find there is a dirty street with construction almost the entire length. Ther are a lot of people bothering you offering all kinds of things (shows, currency change, leather things, sex and so on...) There are a lot of people there looking for an easy mark (read careless tourist) for picking their pockets, or to snatch a purse. I was really glad that I was not carrying a pocketbook, and had opted to put my money and one credit card in my neck pouch under my shirt!

We did find a couple of pieces of rodocrosita jewelry to take home as souvenirs, though the prices were actually better in La Boca. Because of the reputation of Calle Florida we had not taken advantage of the opportunity to buy the jewelry when we were in LaBoca thinking that the selection and prices would be at least comparable if not better. Not so.

Ther are far better ways to spend your time in Buenos Aires than at Calle Florida.

This pedestrian street has all the best and interesting shops as well as a few places to eat. However at the moment they are chopping up the paving and redooing the concrete. It is a mess !!

If you like to shop, then this is the place for you. Endless leather stores selling fantastic items. Head towards Cordoba and Galeries Pacifico to finish your shopping extravaganza in style.
