We had a very nice evening in "Bar Sur". The Tango dances were shown bytwo couples. They were very professional and impressing. We also had much fun with the rich side program: There was a piano player, a Bandoneon player and a beautiful Tango singer.

Together with my husband and 4 other friends we recently visited Bar Sur. What can I say about Bar Sur. Let me start with the positive - cosy with intimate atmosphere, good dancing and singing and a lot of interaction with the crowd. We had a great time until we were presented with a bill of about 35,000 pesos and as all we had was A bottle of red wine we were concerned. Our agent in Buenos Aries had made reservations for us at this place on the basis that all we had to pay for was our drinks and no charge would be made for entrance.

Now for the negative - when we queried the bill we were told that the bill included about 500 pesos entrance fee per person. As we had been told by our agent that there was no entrance fee we refused to pay. This is when it got nasty. Police were called and we were threatened with fraud and were warned that if we did not pay up we would be put in jail. Fortunately for us we had with us the whatsapp conversation we had had with our agent where it clearly stated that there was no entrance fee. However it did not end there. Bar Sur staff refused to acknowledge that our agent had made a booking and we were again threatened with fraud and put in jail where we would be finger printed. We were asked to give a statement which we were happy to do so provided statement was also taken from the Bar Sur manager/owner. Not sure what happened next but the Bar Sur manager/owner brought out the reservation that had been made for us by our agent with his telephone no. on it. Agents name had been crossed out but fortunately for us agents telephone no. was still on it and matched with the whatsapp conversation we had had. All in all this lasted about 2 hrs and at last we were told to go and were excused from paying our bill. A good start to Bar Sur turned very sour.

We were looking for a place to experience local Tango away from the standard clubs. This is it. Do not be surprised if you have to knock twice to get inside. It is worth the effort. Great show. You have to be in the front row. No where else to be. We went after dinner at one of the many excellent locations nearby. Dinner is available at the bar but we wanted a little bit more before going to the Bar Sur.

It is difficult to review Bar Sur in absolute terms. There is the show and there is the food. The show which started with a singer followed by a small orquestra and one couple dancing Argentine tango. We went for the show which was very good. The restaurant is tiny...nine tables and very intimate. So we were very close to the performers. The food was very average and expensive. The whole evening was over $300.

We also got dropped off by taxi at the right address but because streets can be north or south we were in a very bad neighborhood and had to walk almost 1.5 miles to get to Bar Sur. Just a warning.

I was delighted with the evening because I was in BA to improve my tango and the male dancer danced with me. It was a thrill and we got some nice videos and photos.

If you want the big production this place is not for you. BTW there were some nice local bars in this area.

Its is small place and a guitarist never stop joking and playing songs of Gardel ,plus 3 musicians in the background ,the singer makes people participate and very soon you think you are part of a group a small snack is included in the $600 pesos per person for the show.
After a while a couple ,young and beautifully dance many time .milongas and show .Towards the end of the night you get invited to dance and the dancers invite you to take photos with them..Take charge up batteries for videos ..Close at 2am and you will have a nice night!
