Owner description: Architectural landmarks in the city’s oldest neighborhood have been restored, and this revitalized area is distinctly artistic, with cafes, antique shops, cobblestone streets and lots of artists and dancers.

Nice, safe place to stay and visit. A lot of bars, pubs and restaurants, and good Hostel America del Sur.

“Worth checking out”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

Best on Sundays during their street fair - lots of local artists selling their art and others selling faux antiques. Watch your wallets/purses/cameras as it would be easy to be pickpocketed or robbed here, use common sense and you'll be fine. I picked up some real art treasures here for almost nothing.

“Sunday fun”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

Though worthy of a visit at any time, this quaint old area is exciting on a Sunday with is antique market and flea market too.wander the stalls and enjoy the myriad of fine things amid some junk! Lots of tango dancers on small square platforms too. Lots of fun for an hour or so.

“Not what I was expecting”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

San Telmo is an area of Buenos Aires that everyone says to see. To me it was just an average neighborhood. It has old street feel and some older buildings. The big drawback is it that is destroyed by all the graffiti around.
The area DOES have a great sense of feel and has a few good places to eat around the area, but also expect the prices to be a bit higher as well since it is a tourist spot.
Over all, the places is perfect if you want to get some good photographic experiences, as the old cobbled streets and buildings allow for that. If you like to explore some of the tourist spots in Buenos Aires you would also like this area of town. Not so great for those who like a clean city, nature or budgetting.

“Over-rated & hyped up”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

Run-down streets, not very authentic, uninteresting. Not a must-see at all. Aggressive waiters on Plaza Dorrego, they grab you by the arm like you're in Turkey. Uncharming. Go on a sunday if you absolutely have to. More lively when the flea market is on. Any other day is a waste of time.
