“Wonderful collection of colonial paintings and silver”
Reviewed March 30, 2012

Paintings from the 18th and 19th C, are mostly religious, but include secular scenes. Lots of ornate silver pieces for the altar and secular uses. Huge collection of dolls.

“Comprehensive and Delightful”
Reviewed November 27, 2010

I was surprised and delighted by this out-of-the-way collection of colonial era art and decoration. It is located in a converted palace in Retiro. Much of the collection is from the 1700s and made in Peru or Bolivia, which is where Argentina imported its decoration and art in that era. The collection comprises paintings, furniture, decoration, and religious objects.

“A hidden gem.”
Reviewed November 15, 2008

Overview:

This museum is off the beaten path, but is worth a visit. It is at the end of Suipacha street, and is not easily identified, except with an address. Inside the house a number of antiques and old religious items are on display. It is well worth your time to take a tour.

Good:

1. Has a beautiful courtyard.
2. House that is now a museum is beautiful.
3. Impressive collection.

Bad:

1. Most all information is in Spanish.

My opinion:

It is worth a look. It will take between 1-2 hours to tour the museum.

Helpful hints:

1. Just be sure to go on the days that it is open. Check beforehand for it is quite a walk to get there and back. It is only open specific days. I think Wed-Sat, but verify this and the time it opens.
2. Leave your personal items and cameras back at your hotel in the safe. They do not have an area to check personal items.

Please rate my review. Thanks.
