Owner description: The most celebrated Argentineans, including Eva Peron and her family, are buried at this elaborate cemetery, where mausoleums replicate chapels, pyramids and Greek temples.

I visited Pere Lachaise cimetary in Paris, because I have been told it was a "Must" and it was really so, but if I have to compare it with Recoleta Cimetary, find Recoleta even greater....don,t loose it !
You can see even the " El Pilar Church and it´s cloister " it is in the same block than the cimetery. I recomand it very much !!!!
I hope you will enjoy it, and welcome to Argentina !!!

We went to Recoleta mid morning and hired a local guide. They hang around the entrance. She was not expensive and could guide us in English, Spanish or Portugese. (Note: make the money deal up front. We did and then I knew the amount prior to touring.) She told stories about famous people that helped bring context to this city and country. Walked around about 1.5 hours. Fully enjoyable. I did see Eva Perone.

If you want to know the customs of a people, you have to visit their cementeries. This is the oldest and more importante cementery in Argentina. The tombs and mausoleums were built by artist, and there lies the History Argentina personalities of all times.

Artistic and enigmatic. Be sure you don't arrive too late, as at 17.45, they start asking people out. I will definitely come back for more. Make sure you take a guided tour or do some research beforehand so as not to miss anything!

Right in the heart of Buenas Aires this is a site worth exploring. The setting is incredible and you can spend hours looking at monuments that are so beautiful that they are works of art. Eva Peron is buried here. Get the map when you enter. The cemetery is laid out in many paths like a village.
