Owner description: This 1827 cathedral, a mixture of several architectural styles, houses the remains of Argentine Liberator General Jose de San Martin in a marble mausoleum.

I'm not an expert in religious sites, but having visited many cathedrals in Europe there really wasn't anything awe-inspiring to see. The entrance is free, so that's a plus, and for anyone interested in South American history the tomb of General San Martin makes it worthwhile to come in for a short visit.

It looked like a bank but inside was a tranquil space in busy Buenos Aires. There are many small chapels, San Martin's mausoleum, an honour guard ( changes around 3:30) for San Martin, a meditative space and a peaceful feeling that we enjoyed as we sat and reflected. The floors are beautiful and seem to made by the same craftsmen as the opera house. All the usual beautiful work you would expect in a cathedral, but it was the calming atmosphere that I appreciated the most as the outside noise, protesters, traffic, etc fell away. I think you might be able to hear some music in here but not during our visit. I enjoyed that they are honouring San Martin but it is on the outside edge because he had become a Freemason. And it's free!

General Jose de San Martin is buried here.He liberated Argentina from Spain. The stained glass windows are excellent and the serenity of this cathedral is something special. Its vast expanse is to be enjoyed

As far as cathedrals go you can throw this one on the pile if you've been to cathedrals anywhere else in South America or Europe . That being said it is a nice quiet respite for the bustling city outside. Fairly well restores its a short walk to make your way around and it is nice to see locals pop in and out throughout the day. Nothing exceptional, but its convenient and free so it wouldn't hurt to stop by if you're in the area.

It's a nice cathedral in an urban area. Nothing special in my opinion, but worth going if you're already there to Plaza Mayo, Casa Rosada, etc.
