Room Tip: ask for a room to the rear as the hotel faces onto the main road

The location is good but next time we will choose a nicer and less pricy hotel in san telmo or Palermo and use the very easy metro! The hotel is functional but there is a constant smell especially in the bathrooms and the towels. The breakfast is quite poor with the water served tasting as tap water and only place to toast two pieces of breath at a time making it almost impossible to have toast. Only good things is that it is central and near metro but...this is just not enough especially if you are staying for more than a couple of nights.

The Gran Hotel Argentino is on Pelligrini, an access adjoining Avenida 9 de Julio, the widest city street on earth. Just a couple of blocks from the Obelisco, this hotel is in the very heart of one of the most exciting cities in the world. Though it is an older establishment, we found the Gran Hotel Argentino to be at once quaint and elegant, and spotlessly clean. Though our room was not large, the bed was comfortable and the bath very nice. (Some rooms offer excellent views of Avenida 9 de Julio; others offer no view at all.)

The staff was warm and very accommodating and helpful, and breakfast, included with the room (as always in Argentina), was very pleasant and typically Argentine.

One huge asset of this hotel is its location, within easy walking distance of many of B.A.'s most popular sites, and just a few blocks from Tortoni, the city's oldest and most famous cafe and tango theatre. Tortoni is a must if you're visiting this part of Buenos Aires. La Boca, the neighbourhood where the tango was born, is a short taxi ride from the hotel, and one can walk easily from the hotel to the Plaza de Mayo, the Teatro Colón, and the Casa Rosada. This is an area of Buenos Aires that boasts some fabulous colonial architecture and lovely, shaded streets. There is great shopping nearby on Calle Florida and parillas galore.

For the price, the Gran Hotel Argentino is a terrific little hotel in one of the most appealing parts of this great city.

Room Tip: The rooms with the best views face the buisest street on the planet--noisy all night!

If you look for a luxurious room while travelling, then you won't be satisfied with this hotel.
However, if you want a decent, basic room in a prime location, then "Gran Argentino" is for you.

We paid 65 US dollars per night for a double room, with breakfast included, and it was a great value.

Before going to Buenos Aires, I read some of the reviews on "Gran Argentino" and saw some of the photos posted and I was worried to say the least.

What really scared me was the "Bed bug" comment and, as a result, I took a full set of bed sheet with me in my luggage.

I ended up not using them since, after inspecting the bed, I found nothing wrong with it.
I slept 3 nights here and I didn't suffer any bed bugs bites.

Also, the photos posted by other members showing broken tiles in the bathroom and damaged windows, are things I didn't see in my room on the third floor (room number: 323).
I believe the hotel has undergone some renovation since 2008, when these photos were posted.

Again, the room I was given wasn't luxurious, but it wasn't dirty either.
It was just what I needed: clean and simple.
The only downside: there was no mini-bar.
There was, however, a safe-box, which you can open and close using your credit card.
Just slide your credit card (not the room key!) from left to right and the safe will open / close.

The breakfast is served from 7.30am to 10.30am on the 7th floor.
The menu includes two different kinds of omlette (one with ham), a wide selection of meat and cheese, a very nice fruite salad, plus some tasty desert.
I can say the breakfast exceeded my expectations for a 3-star hotel.

The main problem of the hotel was that it had two lifts which are very slow.
As a result, sometimes we used the stairs after getting tired of waiting for the elevator.
Also, even though our room was far from the lifts, I could hear the doors opening and closing. This could be a problem, if you are a light sleeper.

You can use wi-fi internet in your room.
It costs 5 euros (20 pessos) per day and provides a fast connection.

I landed in the "Jorge Newbery" (also called "Aeroparque") airport in Buenos Aires.
This is not the main airport, but much closer to the city.

From here, you can take the bus number 45 to the hotel.
Just go out from the main exit in the airport, turn left without crossing the street, and you'll see the station.
Don't forget that you have to buy your ticket on the bus, from the machine, and you can only pay in coins.
The ticket costs 1.25 pessos.

After getting on the bus number 45, you have to get off at the "Avenida Cordoba" stop.
From here, walk straight forward to "Avenida Corrientes".
Once there, turn right and walk to the "Obelisk" (the giant monument) at "Carlos Pellegrini".
Here, you should see the "Mcdonalds" or an "M&M" shop / kiosk.
Walk past them, go straight forward until you'll reach the "Gran Argentino" hotel.
Another option would be to take the metro and get off at "Avenida Mayo" station.
However, you can't take the metro from the airport, as far as I know.

The hotel provides a shuttle to both airports.
Its costs 130 pessos (25 euros) to the "Ministro Pistarini" airport and 55 pessos (11 euros) to go to "Jorge Newbery" (Aeroparque).

The location of the hotel is great.
You can walk to main tourist attractions like:

- Casa Rosada
- The Congress building
- Palacio Bariolo
- The Florida street
- San Telmo

There is a "Carrefour" right next to the hotel.
Its open until 21.30.
Other than that, there are a lot of shops / restaurant in the area.

I wanted a decent place to stay on the first night of my backpack trip. The location was good to explore Florida, and the breakfast was good but that's it. Wifi was not free, unlike every hostel I stayed at, and the single cot-style bed was no better than the hostels either-except it was private. Backpackers: I recommend Zentrum in Palermo.

We stayed in a Junior Suite for a couple of nights (60 USD per night). Great central location and a new modern room with soundproof windows. There was construction going on in the hotel, but the rooms are well insulated so it did not bother us too much.
The breakfast room is a little small so you might end up waiting for a table. The breakfast buffet is complete and all in all this is a great value for money place to stay.
